I just finished a couple of sorties on the full real (i can actually ID planes without icons in this game), syndicate server. i can truthfully say i had a great time, even though i didnt actually shoot anyone down.
there were over 40 people on when i started my 1st sortie in my 109, i tangled with a spit over the channel starting at about 3km. he must of been a vet because he really knew how to handle that spitty. we had a classic enery fight, lots of spiral climbing and jocking for position. we never could a clean shot at each other and when i finally succeeded it getting the advantage, he did the smart thing and dove away. i lost him when he crossed the coast.
shortly after that i spotted a hurri. this guy wasnt so good and i had a got a good bead on him, but i muffed it and bumped into him, shearing off my left aeleron. now it was my turn to make a break for it. he must of lost me or was damaged also, because he didnt follow.
on my 2nd sortie i got the jump on a hurri who didnt spot me till to late and i got good hits on him. i must of hit his rad or something because he started trailing white smoke. he put up a good fight even after being damaged, but i thought to myself he's a goner for sure. after a few passes on him i caught him out and lined up for a blast to his engine at close range. of course i muff the shot and then nearly gave him a shot at me. i started to be a little more cautious, maybe to cautious. because shortly after that, i banked left when i shoulda went right and lost track of him, i bet he was relieved when that happened.
i gotta say its pretty nerve racking being in a dogfight, trying to get the max performance from your engine(especially when fighting in the vertical) and having to watch your rpms and temps so you dont blow your engine. i was exhausted after just 2 sorties and had to take a break.
i know this game had a rocky start, and its still in need of quite a bit of work. but i gotta say that its really starting to come together now and i dont think i'll ever be playing IL2 1946 again.
I too have had great fun playing on the Syndicate server. It's full-switch so it's very challenging to find the enemy and stay alive- i highly recommend getting on their Ventrillo server and finding a wingman.
I had a blast flying alongside another guy, both of us were in Spits- i stayed top cover while he followed a 109 down over he coast at Dover. I was busily watching him below when i saw tracer blast just over my right wing. I quickly bunted down into a floundering spiral, stalling my engine. The 109 rolled over and followed me down. I stayed vertical for a few seconds as my engine started again and i picked up some airspeed- i looked over my shoulder at the gleaming yellow cowling lining me up for a shot. I quickly pulled up and nearly blacked out, rolled over and noted the 109 hadn't been able to follow my pullout and dove down on him, the PERFECT BOUNCE!. I lined him up ready to blast his canopy from his high six and..... bang!
Huge hole in my left wing, my vision going red and too many damage messages to read. I split S'd again, down right on the deck once now, and tried desperately to get back to my base. My engine was barely producing any RPM, i set the pitch to fine and opened the canopy. My airspeed was barely enough to get me back up the airstrip as i hopped over the village and i landed wheels-up in the middle of the strip.
It was damn good fun- i had paid the price for a moments target fixation. There were no stutters or large fluctuations in FPS, and the devs have done a great job with the graphics as far as aircraft recognition go.
I really get a sense with this game that there is an airframe to be nurtured through the air, much more than i feel in Il2.
My advice before flying on a full switch server- spend some time learning the map as it is so easy to get lost. I haven't learnt the dark art of manipulating the compass in this game yet and prefer to navigate by sight.
I was just on aswell I sat on the ground still playing with the controls learning the start up and what not fuelcock, bump the throttle start up warm up and slow bumps on trottle Guess i still have to work on prop pitch and fuel mix But it was fun knowing im getting there Besides i'm still thinking about what joystick to get maybe the Hotas x flight stick with the throttle I had a exetreme 3d logitech but it wore out on another Dogfight game a year or so ago after only 5 months
Whenever I've been online there have only been about 9 servers in the list - regardless of day or night.
Is this correct?
I've been on the SYNDICATE server as that seems to be the most popular one, but its rare I ever see anyone in-game, or they suddenly disappear (presumably disconnect from server).
glad you guys are enjoying the server!. It definitely takes a lot more work to fly on full realism servers but we think the benefits are huge!. These are indeed early days for the Sim but already we get a taste of how great this is gonnna be
Drop over to www.syndicatesquadron.com anytime and as posted above please use the free ventrilo server provided. It makes sense to fly together and there are always ppl available to help you get started aswell!!
