all in one go. Bought the DVD and couldn't stop watching, there goes doing any work today.

Rami Malek as SNAFU was the best performance, stole the show really. I always get attached to one character and I'm really irritated if they don't make it....so a good ending for me.

And a token nod of my appreciation for the real vets as well.

I didnt like the series. They tried to make another Band of Brothers but failed in the parts that made it so good.

Watching The Pacific it felt to me there was always some kind of hurry to the next scene, to the next action. While it was realistic, men living in their own #### and people dying, it didnt seem to bother most of the characters too much. Telling the audience they were getting eaten by bugs and had 2-3 tropical diseases doesnt help if much if its not shown. Too many of them, characters, too, I had trouble following who was who! Even the scene where the men watch the Battle of Savo Island from the top of the mountain is hurriedly finished in just a few seconds. So much wasted potential.

Only the 9th episode, Okinawa, caught the atmosphere of the Band of Brothers to me. At times the Pacific felt almost pro-war, very unlike the band of brothers.

Really? Part's of it were incredibly anti-war IMO, I found the whole thing pretty neutral and I thought unlike the Band of Brothers they managed to portray the differences between war and home life pretty well. I especially liked the fact that it highlighted the glorification of war and the actual reality of war.

It had a lot of flaws but comparing it to the Band of Brothers does it a disservice.

For a realistic look at the Pacific Theatre try and get a hold of the movie "Kokoda".

I quite enjoyed The Pacific, quite an interesting series. The peleliu episodes were great, though I would have liked to see more of Leckie. Sledge was my favorite character and I would like to seen more of him. I have to agree with Airmail, Snafu was just excellent, especially the "plopping scene". One of my favorite scenes was Snafu stepping of the train in Louisiana. The pacing was a bit strange in the series though.

I liked it a LOT better than BoB. Better action scenes for one thing.

Here's what I wrote about it here after I saw it:

**minor spoilers below if you haven't seen it yet**

I watched several episodes at a time on DVD which I think is more conducive to it than watching one a week on TV. That way the "slow" episodes (like the Australia and hospital ones) maybe meshed better with the more combat-oriented episodes, and you could see why they were important to the characters and their stories. I think if you're waiting a week between episodes and getting all hyped up for them then get an hour of a guy romancing a chick in Australia you might be more annoyed than if you see it more as a small part in a long series.

I definitely liked it a lot more than BoB. BoB annoyed me because while D1ck Winters was a great character, everyone else in it was just a bunch of cameos who came and went and just when you'd think you were going to get to know them they'd disappear for a few episodes and then show up for 10 seconds then fade back into the background again. In this one they focused on 3 characters who weren't as good as Winters and certainly their actors weren't as good as the guy who played Winters, but they were pretty good. Basilone was kind of boring at first but towards the end really pulled some heartstrings. Leckie was alright and didn't have a lot of character but I felt really bad for him and the Australian girl. Sledge was definitely the best character, you could really see the toll the war took on him.

In terms of combat scenes it was pretty epic especially past the first couple episodes where it seemed like the lighting and effects weren't as good as in later episodes. Definitely better than BoB where there was a lot of sitting around and combat scenes were usually rather short.

Well I preferred Band of Brothers over The Pacific but only slightly. Because of trying to weave 3 central stories together, Leckie, Sledge and Basilone, TP comes off as fractured and disjointed at times. The story would've needed a full season of 26 episodes to get it done right. Still the 3 Pelilau episodes and the last 2.5 were marvelous movie - making. I don't believe either took an ultra pro-war or patriotic stance.

I will say that while the U.S. "helped' the Russians whip the Nazi's in Europe, they BEAT the Japanese in the Pacific and that story needed to be told. I also agree that SNAFU was the best character of the bunch.

    Worf
