from 7 - 9 of March there is another big game expo: the Game Developers Conference, held in San Fransisco.

And take one guess who's on the list of speakers?

    Exactly: Jade Raymond.

I searched around and found the following:

    Session:
Chaos vs Control: Creating Gameplay From Crowd Behavior in Assassin's Creed

Speaker: Jade Raymond (Producer, Ubisoft Montreal), Matt Mazerolle
    Date/Time: Friday (March 9, 2007) 4:00pm "” 5:00pm
Location (room): Room 3001, West Hall
    Track: Game Design
    Format: 60-minute Lecture
    Experience Level: Intermediate

    Session Description
Crowd Gameplay is one of the big promises of Next Gen consoles. Having seen the consoles of the future, we thought "Bigger, Faster, Stronger!", "More Polygons, More AI, More Physics!!", "More Enemies, More People, Real CROWDS!!!". Bigger can be better, but it rarely brings anything new to the player experience. This talk explores how the Assassin's Creed team hit upon the interesting conclusion that lots of people on screen does NOT equal crowd gameplay. This talk will walk you through how we harnessed the chaos of emergent crowd behavior to create recognizable rules that the player can use to develop their own strategies and play style.
We will explore a mish mash of design ideas, emergence theory, production pitfalls and concrete technical solutions used in the creation of the Assassin's Creed crowd system. Jade will cover the theory and ideas while Mat explains the nitty gritty details that actually make it all work. Videos, prototypes and tech demos will be show throughout to illustrate what worked, what didn't and what was just plain ridiculous but we might keep it in the game anyways.

    Idea Takeaway
We have to break away from our old recipes in order to deliver something new. Building emergence into our games is a good start but these systems can easily spiral into total chaos. The key is finding a balance between chaos and control so that we continue to take players by surprise without sacrificing the strategic side of play.

    Intended Audience
    Game Developers with Next-Gen experience

Sounds promising. Then again, this type of conference doesn't look like something for players. More for developers, we might actualy not find out anything new unless ur interested in the actual code behind crowds.

    Have my fingers crossed though.

I'm hoping for a new Developers Diary actually

The last one was in September, I'd say it's about time they made another one..

Yeah, I'd say there a lil over due. It's not like a dev diary is even a big deal. But with the famine of info coming from ubi, I guess a few crumbs will do.

Doesn't sound bad. I hope some of those will leak through.
