The Read me file alone tells the story. They are papering over the cracks, just like they did with SH III. Granted III was very playable and I did enjoy it but, it still had a few aggravating bugs hiding in the woodwork. As it turns out, IV is just III with a major graphical overhaul and those same few bugs left over. I'm still grappling with thier notion that adding a Colorado Battle buggy is going to appease us hardcore skippers. C'mon ya Captain Steuben Devs. Get your craniums out of your fourth point of contact. I. for one, couldn't care less what ships from the US arsenal are in the game. I'm not shooting at them! Now US boats is a whole 'nother matter. Narwhal and Tench classes come to mind.
In III we could access everything from the command room. Which made me wonder why they created the toolbar in the first place. Oh, wait. I forgot. Cranial Rectal syndrome.
There are so many things that should have been done with this title and were ignored by those oh so passionate devs.I guess all that is left now is to wait and see.

Get a life guys, the patch looks great, from subsim the speed determination works more realistically than SHIII. Two range and bearing measurements taken then sent to the TDC then you can ask for a speed estimate, whose accuracy depends on the accuracy of your measurements (the broken ranges and ship sizes have been fixed). A much better radar and radar interface to name two.

They probably could patch it 10 times and I'd still come up with a laundry list of mods and changes. That said, I'm happy that someone finally made a new Pacific subsim and frankly, it's not too bad all things considered, especially with mods and a new patch on the way. I've enjoyed reading the chatter from the peeps who got to preview the patch - it's looking up. If you prefer the Atlantic theater, more power to you, but I don't.

Nooo! Now my only chance to get back to base is screwed!

Actually I don`t know much about subs of WWII so if this is accurate I`ll live with it. Patch looks good.

Seriously, in 1.3, what option is there to get back to base with no fuel? In RL you'd call for a tow* (embarrassing, but effective) - what to do in this game???

    * In friendly waters, of course.

The diesel engines were just generators used to charge batteries or on the surface, propel the sub by sending their electrical power to the motors. (do direct diesel driving of the screws)

No diesel fuel and the engines cannot run, and the batteries cannot be charged.

The lack of a "rescue" command (status report) is indeed a problem.

Refueling at sea was not very effective when US subs tried it, usually a damaged sub that was stuck would have the crew evacuated to another sub and they'd scuttle her.

Ideally if you had zero fuel or no diesels (i've had them destroyed and unreapairable) and you sent a status report you'd get a message to abandon ship and you'd get a new boat.

I've lost a sub middle of nowhere (DCed) and get a pop-up telling me 'naughty Capt, here, have another new sub' Like i'm dead in the game.
