Lately I have noticed a lot of "skin hacks" in many US servers. There is no "sniper skin" option in FFA or TDM play. However, it is rare these days that I do not see someone using this hack on virtually any server PB or not. What gives?
I do not use any hacks, and I personally believe that once someone screws with anything code related they have blurred the line. It starts with little hacks and it ends with the philosophy "well everyone else is doing it so why not?"
April 2,2007 UPDATE:
I have learned a little more about this particular skin hack since writing this thread originally.
I guess this hack is a file that you can find and load that gives you access to any of the skins you see in the SP game to be used in multiplayer. (even Val,trigens, pigs and sharks.)
Anyhow, what I was told in a game last night is that ONLY if you have the file installed will you see the customs skins on another player. Otherwise you will just see the default "Jack Carver" skin. The one exception is the "sniper skin" which is apparently visible to anyone whether they have the file installed or not.
The folks using them last night assured me that the game play using the skins is no different than not using them. They did not feel using this file was a "hack" as I was defining it.
Maybe these skin hacks are harmless, but something still seems wrong about using them to me. I guess not knowing much about even how to hack makes me a little paranoid when I see something like this so widely used.
anyhow that is my two cents...
I guess you are right about not getting too concerned over it Cuz.
@Portchyboy... ya the game play for me didnt change. In fact the guys using the custom skin seemed to be having a lot of fun.
I think that I got a little jumpy when I first saw the custom skin. My first reaction was to run it by those of you that are very aware of acceptable modifications to the game. If you folks are ok with it then that is good enough for me... thanks for the responses.![]()
