    Wow, thats pretty impressive!

I love to see the gains that have been made in using software thanks to/because of this game.

    Hey Joe,

that was cool. I'm not expert but I couldn't help but thing 'Airshow Gone Wrong' considering the hat the pilot was wearing.

    Very cool Sir

I wanted a Spitfire with water in the background so just put a stationary Spitfire on some water next to a beach.

This is much more low level and not nearly as clever, but it permits you to put your own (or other) face on any IL2 Pilot.

What I did was simply use Photoshop to copy my face onto a selected pilot in IL2. You do have to reduce your image to match the size in IL2 or it will not work.

When you do this, select this pilot when you want your face to appear. The head turning, etc. will work as always. In fact, it is still there when bailing out, as you can see.

OK, no where near as cool as what is shown here, but doable by almost anyone with minimal skills. (like me)

    Thanks for contributing, Sailorman..

As I recall, the initial IL2 Flight Sim (and continuing through the series) provided guidance on how to insert 'personal' faces for pilots...either that or it was discovered by Players early on. The IL2 manuals have been notoriously lacking in content/specifics. It's been a long time since the initial IL2 came out, so I forget.

Have you checked your netcache recently

...if you play online a lot you'll find the most interesting pilot 'skins' in there, one I do notice is one which is literally all 'skin'

Looks great! Good job. I you wanted to do a shot in which the camera angle moves that must get pretty tricky, huh?

    Very clever.

What I am looking at currently is kind of the opposite - inserting game aircraft footage into real-life video scenes.

I use Vegas Studio (not pro) so I don't have the bezier cookie cutter tool - I have to make do with a circle or oval.

    My first effort is here:

    http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=...feature=channel_page

It's fairly poor but it's more of a 'proof of concept' than anything else. Also, a brand new camera, which I was learning to use at the same time he he he.

I'm still wondering if I'm approaching this the wrong way and there's a better work-around.

That's not bad RAAFStupot. To make it look more realistic though you should use some 'camera matching' software so that any movement of your real camera can be followed by your in-game footage camera in 'post'. Voodoo Camera Tracker is free.

I've also been working on adding to real life footage, but with CGI not yet with IL2. Here are some of my efforts so far...

Helicopter landing on my computer desk

Gladiator aircraft on my computer desk

Skeletal object walking down the street

    And two more bonus tests
Quick mockup of heli in city (no real life footage)

Underwater test of aircraft (no real life footage)

Keep working on your concepts and keep us informed!
