Agreed 100% They've done it before. The simple fact that Israel felt the need to acquire two new, nuclear capable, A.I.P. submarines shows just how serious THEY are! ……And anyone who believes that they WON’T “pull the trigger” to interdict an Iranian Bomb Project has been on anti-depressants too long!
Thanks for the input everyone, especially Celeon with his "knack" for getting top secret photos. Just what was he doing for all those years before he moved into his post-socialist apartment building?![]()

I agree completely. Just look at the Israeli strike on the Iraqi nuclear plant in 1982 that the French helped Iraq build. That was a "civil" plant as well (ha ha). They pressed the U.S. to do something, but the U.S. refused. No other option, they felt, so they acted, borders and treaties be damned. It seems they may, once again, be the only ones taking a threat seriously, perhaps because, once again, they're the targets. Is Iran really going to threaten Europe? Not likely. Likelyhood of hitting the Americas? Not any time soon. U.S. interests ie Israel? Aha!

Why so many torpedo tubes? 688Is only had four. Ten?? Haven't seen that many since the old Gato/Balao classes.
Nice silencer KL! How's that affect balance?![]()

I believe the russian Akula class has even 14 tubes.

Ja Ja, just talk yourself into it![]()
688i boats also have 12 VLS tubes. The new Seawolf class has 8 tubes though. Why so many torpedo tubes? 688Is only had four. Ten?? Haven't seen that many since the old Gato/Balao classes.
Stock Akula's only have 8, but the 'improved' (meaning its only sounds like 3 train wrecks happening simultaneously rather than 5 as is normal) do have a total of 14 tubes.
Hasn't China ended up with most the contracts for the Iraqi oil also?Originally posted by Kaleun1961:

I used to think the US was possibly motivated by the oil-for-Euros scheme but I don't think that is necessarily valid. The amount of money spent on the Iraq war could have gone a long way to develop energy conservation measures or other areas for reducing reliance upon foreign oil.
I agree that Israel's motivation for getting these subs is defense related and for means of intimidating any possible foe who might think of nuking them. The US has done well with their "triad" concept of deterrence. With nukes distributed across land based silos, long range and carrier based aircraft and boomer subs, it is extremely unlikely that an enemy could launch a pre-emptive strike efficient enough to take out a retaliatory capacity. Israel is likely doing the same thing here; it is one thing to attack an enemy with only land based missiles, it is another thing to know that he has a few subs that will certainly be able to wipe you out in return. So far this concept of assured retaliation has the kept the world safe. I would not sleep so easy at night knowing some wingnut countries acquired nukes. North Korea is scary enough, Iran with nukes will be a nightmare, in my opinion.
I must admit to being a bit selfishly miffed at seeing that when so much money and lives were spent there :/
I find the Green Israeli submarine paintscheme kinda hideous, the German black version is much better :P
Its amazing how fat it looks out of the water, but so sleek in the water haha!
