there is a great need for more memory on cards - sure as the end user you can crank 1600x1200 and not get too much texture thrashing, but thats because the developers had to go through the pain and heartache of removing resources and reducing texture quality to make it fit on modern cards. Havent you noticed that the Doom3 texture and bump map quality leaves more to be desired - and on ultra quality that fills almost 750 megs of texture memory.

Whats the point of so many pipelines to simply run current gen games better? Next gen games are going to require 512 for optimal quality i expect.

I will wait for the mid end version of this card to replace my 6600 GT. This G70 has twice the capability of MADD operations per clock per pipeline.

A pitty that a 7800 here in Brazil costs as much as a full month payment from a Importatn University Professor or twice my month payment as Game developer.

Yes the big problem is with BoB looming in the background hardware choices are going to have to have careful consideration ( at these prices anyway ).

The Firing Squad review was interesting but i take it no one heres got one up n running then?

I was interested to see how it handled water 3 animations.

due to SLI you need the small footprint of a single slot solution for proper cooling IMO. 2 Ultras drops alot of heat

Great looking card. Dang things VERY fast ... and screams at 1600x1200 with 4AA & 4AF ... some other nice goodies too.

    It's going to be a good summer ... ATI's X900's come out in a month ... 32 pipes!

We can't lose! Having both companies compete like this is always very good for us flightsimers and gamers in general.

One thing I can't figure out about the new 7800 ... why don't they vent out the back of the case like the X850XT PE's do? The 7800GTX's are hitting 80C ... thats a lot of heat going into your case?

The frame rate increase shown are kind of misleading as the 7800 is running 4 X's AA and the 6800 is running 2X's.

Now I'm no NV fanboi obviously but it is a nice card. A decent improvement in higher resolutions,AA,Supersampling AA, and with water 3. 24 pipes is a good improvement...let's see how it performs on a dual core system soon before passing judement in IL2. Reason being is when the CPU can handle more of the load PF performance will increase. Also 512 of memory would be a bigger help also as proven with a X800XL with 512 in Doom3 beating 2 6800 Ultras in SLI.

What happened to the days when you just bought a whole PC and that was enough for a few years?
Oh yea, they turned them into the Playstation and Xbox!

Well in still getting by with the Gf4 ti 4600 on a 3 year old system XP 2600 1.5 gb ram Abit KR7A Raid mobo etc etc

3d guru have a good article on this new card, and Tomshardware review seemed to balance the hype so to say.

    FiringSquad review Thxz Midway 41

Its just if you react to all the new hardware coming out immediately you dont see a big difference within a short time scale.
I know for fact that my upgrade from Gf4 ti 4600 to 7800GTX will be a massive improvement but not worth installing in my current setup as I probally have too many bottle necks in the system to get it to run as it should, if at all.
So for me its not just a card upgrade im looking at but a system upgrade, I was hoping for some specs on card and system if anyone had one running.

Now wheres that piggy bank gone to ??
