I'd first like to point out that one of the ONLY games that has ever satisfied me was Halo and Halo2. Something about them hit the mark, both on and offline. Its sheer perfection and attention to detail made any other game look like it was put together by school kids. Nothing since has ever come close to knocking it off its pedestal......

    Nothing... until now that is.

Far Cry Instincts.... and to all those that have been moaning about it (myself included) is quite possibly one of the most awesome, exciting and original games i have ever played.

Until a few days ago... i was constantly checking game news for any mention of Halo3.... This was the only game that could possibly match Halo2.... but now.... WHO CARES!@?? Whats Halo? And who the hell is master chief? I'm Jack Carver and can track that stupid cyborg down and Ferral punch his *** back into space.

Firstly FarCry looks stunning.... and i mean stunning. Halo2 looked awesome, but this just knocks it out the ball park. Some of the vistas just knock you off your feet. I never thought it was possible to have such massive view distances... and to rub it in.. you have binoculars that allow you to zooom ALL THE WAY into these distances and check out the action going on over there... its just sick.
The earlier levels are covered in lush vegetation that sways in the breeze. The cyrstal clear, cool blue sea is swimming with fish.... Its simply beautiful. So much so that its honestly a pleasure just to explore the island and ignore the game altogether....... and with the HUGE amounts of action that can take place on this island, vehicles chasing you, choppers in the sky, mounted machine guns tracking you down... AI flanking you... and times this by ten in multiplayer... does it slow down? Does it *&^ Its as smooth as a fresh Brazillian.

Single Player is awesome and emersive.
People have been moaning that it has no replay value.... that they completed it too quickly... Well i completed both Halo games in 24 hours the first time through... its what you do with new games... you sit down determined to complete them... and if you are relatively good... you will... or else you will moan that its too hard.
Each time you play through you can take different approaches and strategies. Be more steatlthful, be more aggressive... be totally invisible and take everyone out with traps.
And the Ferral abilities are the most fun i have had since being able to pick up the covenant sword and slice the flood to pieces..... pluss more.... The covenant sword in Halo is fun... but your feral powers litterally strike the fear of god into AI and online players.

There is something terrifying about being in a chaos game and hearing 'PREDATOR'.... and then your heart beat starts pounding through your speakers and controller feedback.... the closer he gets to you the faster it grows... but you cant see eny sign of him... yet you know he can see and track your scent...... Suddenly its not about trying to get kills for the time being.. its about trying to survive. So do you try and flee? Or do you lay some traps and try and lure him into them.... or stand and fight...

And to all those who moan about multiplayer (again... i was one of these people)
Dont moan until you have had a chance to sit down and play a couple of hours of games.
Most people are more polite than on Halo for starters.... And its a new game, so hardly anyone is a total ace yet....
It takes a short while to get a feel for the weapons, but once it hits... it hits hard... and a cool realisation comes over you, that Halo 2 will very soon be collecting dust on your shelf.

The multiplayer offers everything... halo style run and gun.... ghost recon style stealth.... excellent vehicles.... great weapons.... all wrapped up in a gorgeous looking package with fantastic sound to boot.

And the attention to detail is mind blowing.... Just last night i noticed when my team mate spoke to me through his headset... his character model's mouth was moving in sync to what he was saying!!!!!!

And you cant set traps in Halo.

Think how satisfying it is in Halo to nail someone by blowing up a vehicle near them, or fusion cores. Now think that you can actually choose to do this as a legitimate tactic in FarCry. I would say that about ten percent of my kills last night came from setting traps...
You see a power up... so you take it... and place a claymore beneath it.....
Later... someone will run to get it with out checking...and BOOM... you get a kill... and you were no where near them.

Or... if you get ambushed.,, you can run into the vegetation... and set up a load of tree whips.... If you dont kill those who persue you, you are bound to knock down their health enough to give yourself a better advantage.

And finally what can be more satisfying.. when playing capture the sample.... to leave a very tempting looking escape vehicle right outside the base.... with a claymore beneath it...

"Yeah.. ok ... we got it... lets go.... grab that quad... " BOOOOOM

    'BLUE SAMPLE RETURNED'

And what other game lets you hang-gilde into your enemies base! Or zip wire in! Its just top notch all out fun.

On top of all this, there is one of the most incredible map editors built in, which makes it a sinch to knock together fantastic looking maps.... For them to actually offer a decent game balance takes a little more skill... but the few customs i have played have been fantastic fun.

My advice... if you dont have this game... you want to be getting it as soon as possible. And if you have it, but did not like it... then i suggest you give it a fair chance....

Sorry this has been a bit long.... But i really feel that this game deserves a fair chance for all its amaszing hard work, attention to detail, and sheer brilliance in game play variety.... and likewise YOU deserve this game for putting up with the leagues of **** that you have been conned into wasting your money on in the past.

Sorry Halo. But i have a new girl friend................ for now.

More and more people are going to realize how awesome this game is. It is now one of the best first person shooters I have ever played. Nothing more cool in the world than being able to create your own map. And you can creat almost anything with great imagination!!

Couldn't agree with you moredurandal79. What you wrote was spot on and an excellent read, and ETA-420 . .you're spot on.

Even over at Xbox360:The Offical Xbox Mag site, (new one ,not the OXM) there's so many detractors of the game and some just want to get on with the next one, Far Cry: Instinct 2. There isn't even a next one yet, but all they can do is talk about how better this one could be.

Have they bothered to 'actually play the game' . . . probabbly not. Sure there are little things that can be a pain here and there, but generally, it's a great game to just get right into.

Then there are those that are constantly comparing it to Halo1/2. You can't, it's a different game all together. It may have similar characteristics, but it's certainly NOT a Sci-Fi lost in space FPS with Cortarna popping ito your head every now and then telling you to watch out for this or that.

Love Halo, but it's not this game. It's a bit like comparing Doom3 with Quake 4, both have the same engine, but both are different games.

Great read, hope it helps thos a little uncertain make the choice to go and buy Far Cry: Instincts. You won't be sorry you did.

    Merlin53's Tip
Hint for new buyers, when you do get it home, and before you start to play the game, PLEASE reset your date and time clock in the dashboard, it'll save you lots of hassles later on. Do it now, and you'll have a pleasurable time with the game.

I love the look of this game from what I've seen. The video and screens look amazing... just one snag is it worth buying an x-box alone just for this game? Is it ever going to come to ps2? Help me out people
