These ships drive me crazy. When attacking a convoy I always go after them first (because all the other ships are Coastal Merchants or other small boats with less than 5,000 tonnage). It takes me three or four torpodoes to knock one of those babies to the bottom. That's like 2,000 tons per fish. I should have just gone after the little guys like the Coastal Merchants where one shot equals one kill. My ratio of shipping per torpedo may increase this way.

I am in June of '41 in my first campaign. I hope the German scientists make a more powerful torpedo soon.

aahh i know how you feel ....i felt exactly the same way during my first patrols ....but there is a trick ...aim at the right part of the ship on C2 and C3 s that is just behind their bridge, you will hit their engine room and boilers give a nice exploison ...voila instant kill with one torpedo. either set your torpedo 1 metre under the ship keel with magnetic detonation or set your torpedo's on a depth of 4 metres- i personally prefer contact detonation , somehow 1 in 6 torpedos set on magnetic detonation tend to explode premature

Thanks for the advice. I will give it a shot. I prefer the contact detonation, too. I usually hit the C2's and C3's dead center when I launch from 500 meters. I will try to hit it more to the right.

He is correct, though I use 3 meters since that works for all the early ships.

Also it takes 3 torpedos in different places to take down a C2 or C3 if you can't hit behind the bridge. Not 4.

If all three torpedos hit and hit in different places then that ships is gone, you might just have to wait a few minutes is all.

What I am having a hard time with is the later war ships the Victory and Liberty cargo.

I have given up trying to sink them in one. Though I can if I am lucky, I can't repeat it. Instead I just fire three at them.

same goes for liberties and victory but their engine room is a bit further back usually i aim for the funnel or just behind it.

If youre having trouble with the stok game you should praise yourself happy. I'm currently using GW and most of the time I stay around my victims for hours before they sink. Just had a patrol into scapa and sunk a dd a troop transport and a dido. I also hit a fiji but it only caused it to list a bit. I couldnt get a second hit so I gave up on it and several hours later having exited through the west entrance I received credit for sinking it. Anyway with GW I shoot at the bow of merchants. Causes the cargo compartment to flood and drag down the entire ship. Works maybe 70% of the time and if youre lucky you get a critical (keel, explosive cargo etc)

Yes, it appears that this is something pretty common. I have totally resigned to try to sink C2's and C3's in one shot. What I ussually do is to hit them on the rear, near the propeller (with mag detonation), so they will crawl at 1 knot or even stop. They will start to sink from the rear, and then i finish them off with another fish to the middle or the front (set to 2-3 mtrs contact detonation). This is pretty useful becuase I have always sank them with 2 fishes.

Hmm. I am going to set up a mission and try it.

If that works I will be a very happy guy.

I sink C2's and C3's with just one torpedo, as described by the other guys - just behind the bridge, 0° gyroangle, 3m depth, impact trigger (or 7m depth, magnetic trigger if the weather is very good). The ship explodes, its back breaks (keel snaps) and sinks in 30 seconds.

This tactic worked 99% of the time when I was running the stock game (with graphic and sounds mods only), but now I'm running IUB 1.3 I've noticed that these ships require more than one torp more often - but I still sink them with just one torp around 80-90% of the time.

Victory and Liberty cargoes seeem to be a lot trickier than C2's and C3's, especially the Liberties. I can hit one with one torp and the bridge explodes violently, the engine stop, the ship lists badly to one side, but 90% of the time she stays afloat indefinitely until I finish the job with a coup de grâce torp or deck gun attack.
