Here's the idea. Since we have such great writers and some not so great writers amongst us, I figured we could get everyone involved in a little fun. What we'll do is I'll start off with a couple sentences and leave one sentence open. The next person will finish that sentence, write a couple of their own, and leave a sentence unfinished for the next person, and so on and so forth. Try to have fun!

the destroyer was retreating from another engagement in which it was severly damaged. Its depth charge racks were not operational and its deck guns were out of commision.
