Weather has been abysmal this patrol. Heavy fog the whole time, I've had to shoot mostly blindly as things are not visable until I'm bumping into them! well.. 300 yards away. So I decided to use this astounding blindness to sneak into Loch Ewwwwwe. It was a very full house! I seemed to have gotten a bit too cocky sinking the 2 tribal ships when I realized.. apparently the docks make me visable? So I tried to sneak out and got pinged and cought again, with my batteries running low. I was able ot take out the hunter I that was on to me with my aft torpedo as he charged me.

Then I noticed I admired the detail put into the Cheif engineer wiping his brow, as I was doing the same! But... my stealthometer was still red.. apparently the close proximity to the docks is revealing me? I was all stopped, in silent mode! So then 2 more hunter Is came out of no where darting right at me.. and I quickly charged behind the pier wall and.. luckily they hit each other and blew up!

I'm now hiding back here (as seen in the picture) charging batteries and loading my exterior torpedos for my 2nd try to escape. Before I surfaced I noticed 3 more warships closing in from outside of the port. Any ideas how to make it out of here? also even though I can only see 300 meters.. they can apparently shoot me from 5.. I'm badly damaged.

    Here is my situation!

Do they have Radar ? Might be in a bit of trouble if they do.

    I don't know , it is only november of 1940. I know one is a V&W destroyer.

I shouldn't have dared to actualy go so close to the docks to torpedo the bigger destroyers in there, I usualy just shoot the fiji that is moored aways off :P

It is silly that the docks have godly senses!

    a suggestion that may work.

you see the first ship you sank closest to your position, try getting behind the last mooring (ship parking space)

once there, use your snorkel to check for any DD's & if the coast is clear you can recharge.

you should be able to surface there without to much bother....I use the 11A cos it is small & is fairly easy to hide....less torps though.

    Good luck!

There is another trick you can use in heavy fog; ......but I hesitate to fully endorse it because it falls under the general heading of "Exploiting a Game Flaw".

Whether you use it or not depends on how you feel about the game "cheating" and using "Intelligent Docks" and "Psychic DDs" against you!

    But anyway...........

I discovered that if you slowly pan your periscope around, while at the same continuously tapping the "L" key, the targeting system will lock onto targets even though they are far beyond visual range in heavy fog.

The "Lock On" will only hold for a couple of seconds before it pops off again, but if you have your "fish" programmed, and your outer doors open; ....it's more than enough time to get the shot off.

.....One other thing: I have noticed that the system seems to remember the speed of the invisible target when first acquired. If you are in an extended engagement with something that is prone to changing speed, (like a wounded DD) the speed indicated the next time you pick him up (using the above trick) may be wrong.

...Ahem, he does not have snorkel in November 1940, cause I don't and I'm in December 1940 right now...

By the way, have you tried crawling along the docks? The DD's will get frustrated of trying to DC you... I once had a destroyer charge in and ram the docks. It sank soon after!

A little ballsy (no pun intended) but if its so foggy dont sit around and wait! Man you deck gun, flak gun, and make a break for it, in shallow water if you get a lead on one of the DD's going around a bend it may beach itself. I recommened alternating between hard port and starboard rudder, and use your gun crews to try and disable the foward firing guns on the destroyers.

Make the quick run for the harbor entrance, I only encountered the two DD's while in Loch Ewe. There is a tug trolling around so be careful not be detected by him. There are shore defences close to the pier. I would move a silent running at 15 meters, this way the top of your boat isn't exposed. This should leave you 3 - 4 meters to spare so be quite. Good Luck!

Well.. I ended up having to run for it at ahead flank on the surface. Couldn't use the deck gun, the waters were too rough

I snuck along the docks and got the VW trapped in between the 2 arm like docks. Then I darted north and hid behind that little island and then submerged...and found.. A net! After slipping over the net I was able to submerge , sneak out and limp home. Ouch!

When I tried to sneak around the the docks submerged I was always seem for some reason and from 3000 meters away the destroyers were shooting at my location with their deck gun and I sank stupid clairvoyant docks! Atleast I learned my lesson :P

    Thanks all! !
