Scotlands got its own parlaiment, the Welsh and N.Ireland have their own assemblies, England has nothing. We are the only nation in the EU not to have its own representation in the form of government, assembly or whatever.

England DOES have it's own regional assembly. It's based at Westminster (next to the big clock). The regional assemblies for Scotland, Wales And N. Ireland are just a political device to keep the "minorities" content. They have no authority over tax revenue, which is where all "grown-up" governments start from.

I don't want to pay for an additional tier of English government, do you?

As a resident of London, I currently pay EU tax, British tax, London Authority tax (civil defence, flood, fire & police) and local authority council tax! No more, please...

P.S. Just had my revised council tax bill through the mail: Boris' 2008-9 hairdressing expenses estimated at £210,000!

Mottie, I dont know where to begin with that. I will just bite my tounge but answer one of your comments, you bemoan the fact that England does not have its own parliment. Here is one stat.

For years now I have been absolutely convinced that Washington D.C. was the most Screwed-Up, "Bass-Ackwards", counterproductive piece of real estate on the planet!

It's really nice to see that other nations are striving to snatch First Place away from the U.S.!!!!! (I particularly like the 210,000 pound hairdressing allotment!)
