WOW! that looks bad...
By the way, since I notice that you are flying with water=2 I was told that the best setup for IL2FB is with DirectX and not with openGL (at least my friend with the 7800GTX says that).
Have you tried flying with DirectX ?
If what I was told is true, then you should have better colours, better fps at no loss (except no water=3).
~S~
PS. By the way, I would be paying twice that money you spent on your graphics card to have that forward and lower view in my FW-190! LooooooL!
Please do so! I know people who have been flying with NVIDIA and DirectX since the beginning and claim it is the best way to play (I can only quote them, I fly OpenGL myself LOL).Originally posted by B16Enk:
I haven't tried Directx yet and will give it a go![]()
I rechecked with my friend, he re-confirms that he never had these strange bugs you showed me.
He flies DirectX but also flew openGL with MY settings and he did not notice anything wrong.
(I asked him for some printscreens and I will post them as soon as I get them but this will take a few days).
JUST TO BE SURE, you can try some different settings in openGL: Mine(at least I know that the XFX 7800GTX extreme had no problems with these settings and had 3 times the performance of my 6800GT at 1024x768, 4AA, 16AF and water=3
Here is how to do so:
1. Take the conf.ini in your IL2FB directory and make a backup copy of it (you will need it to return to your original settings).
2. open the conf.ini with the text editor, find the relevant passages in the file and exchange them with the settings below:
[window]
width=1024
height=768
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=1
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0
EnableResize=0
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=1
Use3Renders=0
[GLPROVIDER]
GL=Opengl32.dll
[GLPROVIDERS]
Open GL=Opengl32.dll
DirectX=dx8wrap.dll
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
XX and much lower in the ini file XX
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
[Render_OpenGL]
TexQual=3
TexMipFilter=2
; Initial 2=trilinear, I put 3=anisotropic, Hunter82 says put 1 bi-linear if your drivers force trilinear anyway
TexCompress=0
TexFlags.UseDither=1
TexFlags.UseAlpha=0
TexFlags.UseIndex=0
TexFlags.PolygonStipple=1
TexFlags.UseClampedSprites=0
TexFlags.DrawLandByTriangles=1
TexFlags.UseVertexArrays=1
TexFlags.DisableAPIExtensions=0
TexFlags.ARBMultitextureExt=1
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineExt=1
TexFlags.SecondaryColorExt=1
TexFlags.VertexArrayExt=1
TexFlags.ClipHintExt=0
TexFlags.UsePaletteExt=0
; This disables Texture Anisotropic Extention (recommended by Hunter82)
TexFlags.TexAnisotropicExt=0
TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=1
TexFlags.TexEnvCombine4NV=1
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineDot3=1
TexFlags.DepthClampNV=1
TexFlags.SeparateSpecular=1
TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=1
HardwareShaders=1
Shadows=1
Specular=1
;Specular=2 .......aircraft shading
SpecularLight=0
;SpecularLight=2.......cockpit/windshield sun reflection
DiffuseLight=0
DynamicalLights=0
MeshDetail=2
;MeshDetail=2..........this is largely the "Object Details"
VisibilityDistance=3
Sky=2
Forest=2
LandShading=2
LandDetails=2
LandGeom=2
TexLarge=1
TexLandQual=3
TexLandLarge=1
VideoSetupId=15
Effects=0
;initially 1, Setting effects to 0 removes shadows under flak bursts etc to improve performance slightly.
ForceShaders1x=0
PolygonOffsetFactor=-0.15
PolygonOffsetUnits=-3.0
Water=3
3. Save these changes in the conf.ini
4. There are some changes to do in the settings of the NVIDIA graphics driver. In summary:
AA = 4
AF = 16
Performance to "Quality"
Vertical sync = OFF
FORCE MIPMAPS = Trilinear
Texture-Clamp = ON
Erweiterungsbeschränkung=OFF (sorry, don't know the English name for this)
Trilinear optimisation = OFF
Anisotropic Mip-Filter-Optimisation = OFF
Optimizing of Anisotropic sample = ON
Negative LOD-Bias = Clamp
(You need to have the advanced settings activated to see some of the above options).
5. play IL2FB
I hope it works for you, good luck!

Yeah, you will surely get better performance because you can NOT run perfect with DirectX! Only in OpenGL can you get perfect water.Originally posted by Manos1:

OK, OK, I did not know that! LOL, I never flew DirectX (now I know why).Originally posted by PF_Coastie:

Then B16Enk, the only thing left for you is to test my settings as posted above. If you do not know how to edit your conf.ini send me a PM with your e-mail address and I will e-mail you my original conf.ini (it may not work 100% because of the joystick settings (I have 3 joysticks) and the sound (Audigy 2) but, the graphics should work.
Still, the easiest is to exchange the passages in your conf.ini with the lines I posted above...
And I am curious...

I also found something very interesting:
Sorry I did not keep the name of the creator of the post but maybe you should try whether the 7800GTX works with the 71.25Posted Tue August 16 2005 14:28
After much Driver testing here are my results:
77.77 DRIVERS
Still have the missing Texture issue with many aeroplanes.
Low level flying Terrain stutter is however fixed.
77.76 DRIVERS
Still have the missing Texture issue with many aeroplanes.
Low level flying Terrain stutter is however fixed.
71.89 Drivers
All textures are normal... No problems
Low Flying terrain stutter is present.
71.25 Drivers
Textures Normal
No Terrain stutter in low level flight
71.25 Drivers are for me the latest drivers acceptable to me for IL2/FB/PF use.
66.93 Drivers
Textures Normal
No Terrain stutter in low level flight
66.93 Drivers are ok for me for IL2/FB/PF use.
So It would seem whatever changes were made between 77.76 and 71.89 caused the Low level terrain stutters. And whatever changes were made between 71.25 and 77.76 cause the Texture transparency issues.
I am using 71.25 at the moment.
