I don't know if you guys are aware, but for the past couple of months I have been working as a skinner on the Legacy of War Mod Team, who have been slaving over hot keyboards and computer mice to deliver the best mods for Star Wars: Empire at War. Our latest release was a smash hit, adding the Super Star Destroyer Executor, the Rebel Dreadnaught, as well as new starfighters and heroes!
However, due to Real Life(tm) issues, we have lost our skinning lead. This puts us in quite a bind; we were scheduled to release a major part of the mod (the 0.5 Release and later the 1.0) before Forces of Corruption, the official expansion, is released on October 24th. In order to meet this timetable, we are in desperate need of more skinners to help us. And since I figured there were quite a lot of talented skinners in the IL-2FB/AEP/PF community, I would post an advertisement here.
Skinners should have at least a working knowledge of how to work with UVMaps. Experience with 3D graphics programs would be welcome, but aren't necessary. You will be making skins the best way possible: completely from scratch over original 3D models; this will be a challange even for those of us with years of experience. Applications should be submitted at the Legacy of War website's Community Forum. Anyone is welcome to apply; tutorials can be provided aplenty.
Thank you all for taking the time to read this. <S>
I can't tell you wether I'm free enough or not but, at least for everyone :
1.Do we require a 3D software ? (if yes, which one + version)
2.Is the UV mapping finshed (I mean won't change while skinning has begun) ?
3. is there a viewer software ?
4. A colour chart ? Plans, photographs, drawings ?
5. Is it paid or free stuff ?
6. Not exactly but, how many guys do you need ?
Best Regards,
Macwan.
Basically, we'll take care of everything you will need in order to skin for us (nudge nudge, wink wink aye what). The UV maps generally won't change once they're set. Most of us on the team use 3D Studio Max version 6.0, as this is seemingly the only version that produces models that work with the game.
At its heart, Legacy of War is a canon remake of the game; a complete overhaul of the game's components and/or mechanics to bring it and the storyline into line with established Star Wars canon. So that means there will be some creative lisence allowable, and references are usually available.
The mod(s) are free. And ideally, we're hoping to recruit five additional skinners. And take it from me, this is a fantastic way to learn how to skin without using a template. It's a lot harder then it sounds, but once you get the hang of doing it, the result is immensely more rewarding.
Phewww ! Thanks for anticipating 2D tasks, 3DSmax licenses are so...ehm...Originally posted by Goodwood_Alpha:

wish you the best,
Macwan.
