There is one line in the text file from the launcher of Sfenne that may be the issue as to why the game won't actually launch and it is this one.
I have absolutely no idea how the DRM system acutally works save from saying that there are certain 'checks' that must be positive before the game will be authorised and launched.2010-04-01 19:25:25 [5656] [DEBUG ] LoginHelper.cpp (118) : Failed to decrypt the user password
Seems to be that it's failure to effectively authorise the 'user password' is some sort of preventative measure in the DRM to prevent a pirated copy being used.
I don't know if you gentlemen can compare the relevant log files from the launcher folder to see if the same error applies to you all. If it does it gives you more of an arguement to take back to technical support...for what it's worth.
The Assasins Creed 2 PC players are having the same problems, can I suggest that you take a look at their forum, someone has suggested a fix for their launcher issues
Launcher probelms
I am not sugesting it is a fix for the Silent Hunter issue but it may point you to something to help you out.

Well, it's been over a week since I logged a case with Ubisoft via the online tech support portal, and to date I've had no response. I checked the case and I'm the only one who has done anything to it - providing updates as I tried additional troubleshooting steps.
I don't expect immediate resolution, but I do expect a timely acknowledgement that a human being is at least interested in helping me.
Given there are several of us experiencing the same issue, I think it's only reasonable to expect UBI to give us a little support.
If anyone from Ubisoft actually reads this thread, I recommend you take a look at Bohemia Interactive's standard of support. They respond quickly and at least make an effort.
I'm one disappointed customer who can't use the product I paid for, and can't get the attention of the company that made the apparently faulty product to get it fixed.
Grumble grumble.
Update: I just found a more recent thread in this forum where someone described the same problem - and a solution.
After disabling all the Vista fancy window appearance stuff (I think this equates to turning off aero?), I can get the game to work again!
Still no response from Ubisoft support though...
I think this maybe the thread sfennen is speaking of - click here to go to that link.
From what I can tell the person turned off their fancy Windows theme, went back to the basic one and the game loaded. This person has Windows 7.
I have windows 7 and found that when I started to play Bad Company 2, because I also had other programs running on another screen, that the system itself wanted to turn off 'Aero' because it was 'hogging resources'.
Here is a link on how turn them off in both Vista and Windows 7.
Turn off 'Aero'

Subsim Mod Section
You will find, amongst others, a Mod by TheDarkWraith that re-enables a lot of the features of the UI from both SH3 and SH4. All are enabled using JSGME...you will then feel more at home with it!!!
