Ok--straight to the point.-- Everybody hates hackers, and we have all indured the horrific troubles with PB and other things to severly discourage them.But--if your like me-- then most of us have tried out these hacks--either to test and help the comunity, to obtain then to send to someone who can, or just to see what the hell it is.I have been in this game since day one, before the 1.1 patch, before anybody could realy play on line cause of some regional issues.Nobody has a problem with me, and nobody has ever called me a cheater. i have tested, beta'd, and worked with almost everybody out there to help this community in my own way. i have found hacks and reported them to PB, so they can fix them, and some other things as well. None of this is to pat my own back, there are several others who have done ALOT more for this community than i have.

I have a decient friend of mine that got kicked from a server for a hack--this really caught me off guard, after all i have known this guy for some time--and since he is about to become a grunt, and since i am a ex-grunt--i feel some bond with him.--I have never asked any favors of the community--nor have i made any blunt 100% statements---untill now that is. The friend i speak of(if you know who good--if you dont, then better:hint: caught by 760) is NOT a cheater--he was however caught with a left over file from a hack that he found and was thought to be using it. Let me say this--- We have all been there/well sorta all of us. we have all tried, or tested, or done for fun, a hack. most of us delete them after, or send them off to an authority to look at. my friend DID remove what he had, but he did not remove the leftover file in his FC folder(and no i wont say which file)-- In my opinion he F@#ked up, ya, but at the same time he was not using it----all im saying is that since we have all been there/well sorta, we should all give him the same treatment that we our selves would want in his shoes.--I am not going to publicly release his name--but to any body who reads this--and know of the situation i am talking about--My friend was not using a hack , he was before, but got rid of it before he went on-line. I honestly believe him, and stand by him 100%--all i am asking is that if you know of this situation that you show him the same understanding that you would show yourself.

out of common curtusy if you do know of this--then do not post his name here-- not till this is resolved.

This same situation occured in europe a little while ago as well.

My opinion then was that this cannot be allowed to be an excuse. If this is allowed then any hacker that gets caught can say " i was only testing it to tell PB". That is BS and would make all anti cheat software irrelevant.

Now not everyone is like you and your friend, i have never tested any hacks to see what the hell they are and i never will. If your friend was too dumb to delete all traces of the hack then he should not have been messing with them in the first place.

Now if I had tested a hack and was too daft to delete it properly and it got detected i would fall on my sword and take the ban with good grace. I suggest your friend do the same.

Ditto to hazards

any hack for any reason is inexcusable

Accepting that as an excuse would be nonsense. It would be the same that I would try and sneak something out of a supermarkt and then after I get caught say something like: 'I was only testing your security system and was going to put it back.'

I am not saying your friend was using the cheat, but you see the problem with accepting such an excuse?

Only deleted "try" hacks. And certainly not "most of us".

I have to agree with the responces. The only smart thing to do would have been to reinstall the game from scratch to avoid any possibility of stray code. Its like saying, "I didn't know the gun was loaded"
I will also say that I have never tried any hacks. I do not even know where to get them. (and do not tell me since it is a serious violation of forum rules)
There was a discussion a while back about a blatent radar hack with pics where I took the position of "Far Cry is buggy, is there better proof". While I am not convinced that innocent players will not get unwarrented kicks and bans, I understand that that for the greater good of the community cheating must be dealt with harshly even to the point of eliminating false positives.
If it was just this one server, then he should take the lesson and move on.

No the responce should be DO NOT experiment with HAX!!! PERIOD
You get nailed, your fault,
you should be banned, no excuse is good.

We must be firm and not wishy washy on this issue.
Caught = BAN

So if someone gets kicked by PB due to an MD5 hash failure on effects.pak, do you have zero tolerance for this? It COULD be an attempt to hack. More than likely it's an honest oversight by a map developer who forgot to replace the effects.pak file with a known good backup after running the Sandbox editor. But why take chances? Ban them and label them a cheater. Zero tolerance and all that.

If no one is to ever run or test cheats, how do we develop PB settings to stop them? People like Pvt. James, DocSEAL, and others do a lot to help stop cheats, but they have to run them to figure out how to stop them. What if someone like Pvt. James accidently left a file behind while testing a cheat, and got a PB ban as a result? Would we label him a cheat?

If this community is so anti-cheat, why are we not automatically sharing ban lists through built-in capabilities of punkbuster? Why do we tolerate the large number of dedicated servers not running PB? Why are we not actively seeking alternatives if PB is so flakely, like Vexsecure?

It's hard for me to see this in just black and white terms; it appears there is some grey area.

Has PvtJames or DocSeal ever been kicked on any other server than 1 that they admin or are purposely testing on. Not to my knowledge, maybe its because they know what they are doing and have the technical know how to test this stuff.

Maybe the general attitude is harsh towards this guy but the fact that he messed up ang got caught proves that he had no business messing with this stuff in the first place. All this means is that he will have a clear conscience but be banned for his own incompetance and not hacking.

I have not "been there"

I have never tried a "hack" or even looked for them. As a matter of fact, I have never even started farcry with devmode.

I have been accused of cheating many times both as Death Cow and as my alias(D.H.) and generally think it's funny 'cause it is usually a noob. But when a clan member gets caught, it P*SS*S me off to no end. It makes all clans look bad.

I tend to beleive that cheaters are few and far between and the testing of "hacks" should be done by the "experts" or at least on your own server.

Some n00b who thinks he/she is doing the community a great service by "testing" hacks to see what it's like deserves to be banned.

Do you really think a cop will give me a break cause I was "just testing" how fast my car will go?

I think you came to the wrong place for sympathy
