Hello everyone. Just thought I'd post that I have bought and am switching over to Ea Sports Active 2. This is for a few reasons. Mainly, the obvious lack of support for YSFE. I appreciate that gypsy and spectra manage and patrol the forums, but they're not devs and they can't really do much to qualm our annoyances other than let us know they've reported our problems and looked at and yadayada. So, thanks to them, but like has been said, Ubi doesn't care that we have problems with their product. They already have our money (actually, gamestop has my money, since I bought YS used :P nyah), so they don't really care that we threaten to move to a different game. All that's going to do is get money for TWO companies.

But anyway, I thought I'd make a forum post for people who are thinking about switching, or have switched, or have both games so that people can post goods and bads about both. Though, like most people who have switched, I'll probably forget these forums ever existed, but I'll do my best to come back and post some of the pros/cons of active.

So far though, from my forum browsing, it seems as though active will offer a much more fulfilling fitness experience.

So what are your thoughts? Have you played both or switched from one to the other? What have you liked or disliked?

    OK, I'll bite.

First of all I love YSFE (in top 50 for a while now), it helped me a lot. I still don't have EASA2 or BL but I decided to gamble a bit and just ordered both. Also note that I don't expect to ditch YSFE completely (I might be wrong)

I know some YSFE users tried to switch so I am looking forward to hear their impressions.

My reasons for trying to switch?

    - While I really like YSFE and it has been giving me a great workout I would like to push myself a bit more a this point. I want to see how my wounded knees react to high impact. (for exmple during the "breaks" between cardio boxing excersises I'we been **** sucicides and side to side jump lately. YSFE doe not provide anything simialar.
EASA2 is supposed to have this type of excersises included.

    - While I don't mind coming up with the sessions order myself and constantly switching between personal trainings does not drive me crazy (seeing "10 or 11 sessions remaining" all the time) I believe BL and EASA2 give you some more structureed order and options to customize the workouts)

    - I plan to keep BL for my wife even if I don't like it. Even the (limited) demo od BL had some excersises that take you to the floor and focus on different muscle groups YSFE does.
In one word: diversity in workouts

    - After 2.5 months I want to make a change. (I have my preffered 4-5 seassion I rotate in YSFE, but it can get boring when I'm tired or busy). Still plan to coming back to YSFE couple of times a week even if BL and EASA2 work out for me.

    - I read about issues with EASA2, but I am willing to take a gamble and try to figure it out. Some XBOX freezing issues really worry me. (if nothing I'll customize it for the stuff that actually works and hope that future patch solves other issues)

FYI Active is the deal of the day today at Amazon for $49.

I find it to be a much better workout as it really gets you in a targeted heartrate (and monitors that) for progress.

I run YS at 100-120 heartrate and Active at 120-140. Any trainer will tell you that 30 min at a higher heartrate will produce more results than 60 min at a lower heartrate.

YS has become my warmup to my training on Active. I wouldn't recommend Active though if you need to stick to low-impact exercises because it has you doing alot of jumping about.

Hey everyone. I got a chance to try out EASA2 this evening and I thought I would write down my really quick first impressions. I didn't play with it very long, but I got a quick idea.

So far I really like it. It seems much more "fun". YSFE is clean and graphic designer-ey which has it's place, and I think it works to some extent in YS, but EASA2 has a really bright and colorful style and I think it helps liven up the workout and just seems a bit more positive.

One thing that I really like (that they need in YS) is the ability to just go to workout, set how long of a workout you want, what you want the workout to focus on (upper body/ lower body/ cardio/ etc etc) and just have it auto-generate a workout.

Obviously, the heart rate monitor is a huge plus. I've read some people saying that it's not accurate, but it seems to be working well for me. Maybe there are faulty units and I got lucky? Anyway, very nice to have that information available.

There are some problems though of course, as other people have pointed out. The motion tracking is not necessarily as good as YS. Sometimes during jumping/big movement exercises the avatars limbs get highly janky. Also, during floor exercises, it will sometimes ask you to get on the floor, then lose you, and you'll have to stand back up for it to find you again, but once the exercise starts nothing else like that happens.

I had heard about the game randomly pausing and saw that turning off voice commands stops the problem. I never turned the voice commands on when I started the game, so I've never had a problem like this.

Another thing that I find more to my liking with EASA is that there are no green dots or rythm to have to try to fulfill. The trainer still tells you if there's something you're doing that's not right, but there isn't the sense of withholding that I got from YS. I can do the exercises a little faster or slower if I want to and there's no penalty. Only in the instance if you go REALLY slow does it flash "too slow" on screen. And, if you decide to go faster, it congratulates you, instead of taking away score.

Overall, it's only a first impression, but I'm definitely enjoying EASA2. I'm sure I'll still mix in YSFE to keep myself from getting bored with either, but I think Active is what I was expecting from a fitness game in the first place.

Oblong, thanks for the heads up about the deal on Amazon. I picked up a copy for the PS3. I read some reviews that say the tracking with Kinect isn't great and it works better on the PS3 with the tracking sensors. Once I get it and get going on it I'll post what i think about it.

I too am moving over to EASA2. I purchased them both to see which I would like more. Was planning on using both in order to switch up my routines, but YSFE is too much of a mess to deal with.

EASA2 has worked flawlessly for a month now, right out of the box. The website updates everytime, you can change up your workout without losing progress and it has the HR monitor.

YSFE has been a disappointment. I was a fan of the original your shape, still have it and still play it for the yoga. This newest iteration will be on its way to gamestop this afternoon to become somone elses problem. The new owner can figure out the magic to making this game sync with the website and unlock achievements :/

    Thanks stiltd07,
You are not seeing any issues on XBOX an EASA2? Game losing track of you when going to the floor, freeezing etc...?
What is your setup, space etc...?
My EASA2 shipment throught the Amazon was delayed, but I want to be sure to try and make it work under good conditions once it arrives and I gave it my verdict

Well, I have to say I'm not migrating anywhere. Yes, I have both YSFE and EASA2 and I like them both. They each play a part in my morning fitness routine. I did not buy EASA2 because I'm disenchanted with YSFE. It has been a part of my plan ever since I pre-ordered my Kinect back in July 2010 to own both of these workout games. The only reason I waited to buy EASA2 until later is because it was way over priced in my opinion and I was waiting for it to become more reasonable.

It's no secret that I have had my share of problems with YSFE but that does not alter my general opinion of this fascinating piece technology. I think what it took to put a game like this together is nothing short of amazing. The designers of YSFE have truly taken advantage of the Kinect sensor in ways that EASA2 doesn't even come close to. And after using this early Kinect offering, I can't wait to see what UBIsoft comes up with in the future. When I'm using YSFE I feel totally engaged. I know that some people are not fond of having to keep in rhythm. I actually enjoy it, to me it's a plus. In fact I think that's what makes me want to fire up the Xbox each and every morning.

EASE2 is a good workout program and very useful. It has it's own problems but it gets the job done. It's refreshingly colorful and I do enjoy that. I love mountain biking and some of the other activities. But I'm not particularly thrilled about the heart rate monitor. It sounded interesting to me when I first read about it. But after using the game I think it's a technologically crutch. I think that if EASA2 had been created to take full advantage of the Kinect sensor the heart rate monitor would not be needed. I have in fact done a detailed comparison for myself. I compared a toning session in YSFE with a custom workout I created in EASA2 using very similar exercises and the same durations, and guess what? The resulting calories count was amazingly similar.

There's a lot to like about both of these games and there a lot that needs adjustment in both of them. But even in their current state they have become a very enjoyable, sometimes frustrating, but important part of my day.

I don't really mind the rhythm too much in YSFE except in those cases where certain music doesn't have a strong, solid beat and the *trainer* is slightly out of rhythm. I end up getting thrown off beat.

Like I've said in another post, I'll likely try out EASA2 if the price gets down far enough in the future, but I'm also not too fond of the idea of *having* to use a heart monitor for the exercises.

Neither of these games (or the others) is really going to give anyone a complete fitness experience in and of itself, so there's really no need to give one up just because you start using another. A good mix and match is beneficial.

bekkilyn, I agree that using the best of both programs is much better than trying to use just one. In fact, Biggest Loser would make a 3rd and I'm sure there are many more that will soon be out to consider.

One note, on Active you don't have to use the heart monitor if you so choose. You can still do all the programs and it will track calories.

I love Active for allowing me to use my own music in game. Because it's not rhythm based it allows this. And yes, the irony is that some of the YS rhythm stuff isn't even on rhythm with the crappy music provided. I do very minimal rhythm workouts in YS and favor cardioboxing because you just have to do the moves. Active is even better because it registers the moves at your pace and not that of the trainer.
