    Hello,

I wanna buy a new combat flight simulator and il seems to be the best one.
    But it's old (?).

Is it a good idea to buy a il version tody or should I wait for a new game?

    greetings,
    daniel

"Battle of Britain" is like a year and a half away.

    You can buy

    1.Forgotten Battles Gold
    2.Pacific Fighters

PF was released in october 2004 so its not very old. Also you can merge (1) with (2) and have a big sim!

When you factor the price vs. the number of flyable planes and total package of features, the "Gold Pack" is an incredible bargain at only $30 (USD) or so.

I think most here would agree that "Gold Pack" (or "Forgotten Battles" and "Ace Expansion Pack" purchased separately) still tops the currently available WWII air sims. "Pacific Fighters" adds to that line and creates one huge sim. If you play online, then PF is practically required; otherwise, FB+AEP will keep you plenty busy for a while.

Gold pack was the best $40CND I've spent on a game.

In my opinion, it's allways a good idea to buy The Original One.
(I do fire it up occasionally, and though it's old, it's still good, and nice, and fun! Get some custom made missions for it! )

Install it, play it, and if you like it, get the next version: Forgotten Battles. And enjoy the new stuff in it...

Then, get AEP ... enjoy the new stuff in it...

Then, get PF.... and enjoy the new stuff in it....

By the time you've mastered this fully... BoB will be on the shelves!

(This way you can have the same fun alot of us had, when we got IL2 4 (Four!!!) years ago... we were amazed by The Original, and amazed once again by getting patches and additions! Amazed once more with FB... well, and so on...)

    Have Fun!

(Well, this advice will not be valid if you plan on going online now. In that case: follow carguy_ 's advice... get merged to current version and have fun!)

    1. Skip the original "IL-2 Sturmovik" unless you're getting it for free or almost free. It's still a good game, but "Forgotten Battles" is the same game plus lots more. I don't know why these chuckleheads always recommend newcomers get the first version of the sim as well as "Forgotten Battles" ... you can't upgrade it past the last developer's patch from 2002; you can't merge it with the expansion packs; all of the planes and maps of "IL-2" are in "Forgotten Battles"; and very few people play original "IL-2 Sturmovik" online.

    2. The suggestion to wait for IL-3 was a joke, just in case you didn't realize that.
