I have just suddenly rediscovered the joys of offline campaigns, especially in my 109f4. Unfortunatley i have never really liked the default skin for the f4, so i always changed my own plane skin. The thing is, i always think it looks kinda odd that everyone else has got a diff skin to me lined up on the runway (maybe it gives an extra pointer to the enemy ai to chase me!)
Anyway, i thought to myself, hmm i'll just rename the skin i want them to use as the default skin. Go into folder, no default skin???
anyone got any ideas??
Ps i've just started using ill2 mat manager, and i have to say it is awesome, love the markings now.
Yes, you can change the AI's skin. You have to open the mission in the FMB.
With the desired mission open, you click on the flight you want to change the skins for. If you hold the cursor over one of the waypoints, a box should show up with the flight number and aircraft type.
Select "view" and then "object" from the directory at the top of the screen.
You should have a window appear with tabs along the top.
Select "plane1" and click on the tab.
there are a few drop down boxes with skill, skin, pilot, etc.
click on the arrow next to the skin box and it will show you all the skins you have for that particular AC in the paintschemes/skins/?? folder. Select the one you want and it should appear on the aircraft viewer at the bottom of the window. The front page will still have the default skin, but don't worry about that.
Repeat process for the rest of the flight ad infinitum. Very user friendly, right?![]()
Thanks for the reply Bird brain, you're not wrong about the user frendlieness. I've just done it for my next mission, but its kind off given away what i will be flying againstRepeat process for the rest of the flight ad infinitum. Very user friendly, right?![]()
Dont think i'll be bothering to do it for the rest of the campaign...
Shame, but not the end of the world!!
cheers fruitbat
edit: just curious, Bird brain, have you any idea where the default skins are, presumably they must be somewhere?
There is way easier thing you can do.. just open DGen folder and select appropriate map file and add skin by typing exact skin name (that you already have in appropriate skin folder) next to desired plane.
For instance here's Kursk.db

If you have a skin for LA-5 named la5skin.bmp you should enter that next to the LA-5 entry in Kursk.DB. Take a look at the red text.
Take a look on how they have done it with AI planes at bottom of the file, that should give you a clue.
For sure you can go mad if you change skin after every mission you played in .mis files, that is not reccomended.
After you made that correction, on that map default skinned LA-5 will always appear in la5skin.bmp. About default skins, they are encoded somewhere.(you can not preview other than in game)
Let me know if you have succeded, because I have done that year ago or so (I think I write all correctly, I may be wrong tho) and it worked nicely.
Hi atomic marten, i've just been trying what u said, but hit a small problem, at the moment i am flying a 109f4 in the crimea '41. I dont know if it is because i changed the default plane to an f4 for the campaign, but in the plane list there doesn't seem to be any f4's apart from the aces at the bottom

any ideas??
Also, where you have shown where t5o enter the skin, i asume u have to enter the path as well, or does it automatically pick up the directory??
thanks for your help
fruitbat
Mate sorry for delayed answer I bet you had figured it by now.
Anyway, you should have Bf-109F-4 on 'ordinary' list (non aces) to make it work.
For instance you can change 25 I_153_M62 skin because it is on that list.
Second, you do not have to specify directory, you must put skin in proper directory instead.(if you have Bf-109E-4 skin for example, be sure to put it in paint schemes/skins/Bf-109E-4 folder). If the skin name is Bf109Galland.bmp, then you must type exactly that in a way shown above.
I will test it and if anything is wrong here I will try to figure it out..
@thefruitbat here is your answer:

Note the red line. Just copy/paste that (number 20 is randomly selected) and all your AI squadron mates will be dressed in Trautloft's skin.
Happy hunting
My guess is the number of available planes before the squadron must ask for resuply. Sometimes your squadron does not have enough fighters to put 8 fighters airborne.. (you see message after your mission -- your squadron has only 7 planes left).
I think that number is reffered to that, I'm not sure tho.
Also I think it can be easily checked out. For instance, setup new campaign with 'easy' settings (you start mission in air) lower the number of BF_109E4 to, I don't know, let say 10. As soon as mission starts, shot down few of your squad mates. If de-briefing screen says "Your sq. has 10-x planes left" (x is how many you shot down, shot down 3 or more just to be sure) than that's it..
