it sure seems that way doesnt it.

as for your other sarcasm, ill just add that i follow anything in the news having to do with russia rather closely.

ive been doing that for a long long time. probaly before some here were born, for reasons i wont bother you with. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

But if you don't bother, how can you expect me to respect your point of view? No sarcasm intended. I think we'd have us a much nicer world with a bit more dialogue and willingness to listen. I'm willing to listen. You've been polite enough to listen to me, after all. I ask you to reconsider replying to my questions about the news coverage. No offence taken if you'd rather not, but I can't see what else I can say to show that I'm genuinely interested - except that I'm genuinely interested.

I thought this was pretty much common knowledge. Found an aerial shot; USS Intrepid getting a makeover next door:

i meant that i wont bother you with the reasons i follow news having to do with russia.

    they are rather boring reasons.

as for the quality of the news coverage about the memorial? come on, that i dont remember.

Fair enough, Von_Rat. I think we can move on with no worries. Cheers.

That pic puts some perspective on it though, doesn't it? I mean despite the size of the monument, it is dwarfed by its' location and seems a bit 'tucked away'. No conspiracy theory intended there - I appreciate how valuable waterfront property must be there. I wonder how well attended it is? Was it built on the other half of the car park, or was the car park built specially? Thanks for posting.

if its like most other memorials ive seen, it'll be attended by tourists and most locals wont even know it exists.

It is kind of out of the way; apparently Jersey City couldn't find a place for it. But who knows...in twenty years it may be all condos and hotels.

So is your attitude that those of us that have not heard about it are somehow are idle-minded and beneath contempt.

So what if Putin was there for the groundbreaking? Since Hitler presided over the 1936 Olympics, did that make him a nicer guy? I have NO problem with the majority of Russian people I have met in my life (and I have met quite a few). That does not mean I trust the motives of their leaders.

Bearcat said it the best, I think. To those controlling the cameras, it doesn't qualify as a "newsworthy event". There were no Hollywood celebrities present or involved. Nor were there any missing children, sordid love affairs, actors overdosing on drugs or multi-million dollar pro sports contracts involved. Had this event made the evening news, I still would have missed it since I haven't watched any TV news programs for years other than to get local news.

Anyone else remember Don Henley's song "Dirty Laundry"? Oldie but a goodie and never truer than today.
