You can thank Mr. Putin for that, I think. It would 'confuse' <STRIKE>his subjects</STRIKE> the Russian people to eulogize westerners at the same time he's trying to bring back the cold war with Bear bomber flights and Russian fleet visits to Central America. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>Originally posted by jarink:

Exactly what I was thinking. Why is this not publicised?
That is unacceptable.
You would have us believe that knowledge of the existance of a ten storey high monument opposite the statue of Libery has been suppressed by the Kremlin in an attempt to reinforce cold war attiudes. Had this monument been a gift of the people of another country, what would the reaction be? For 'people' read 'government' whatever the country - I doubt a referendum would be involved.
You are no doubt aware that 9/11 saw the highest single loss of life to the British population due to terrorism. I would like to thank the Russian people for their gesture of rememberance and read nothing more into it. Unfortunately, I couldn't do this before as I was unaware of the existance of such a literally monumental gesture. I seriously doubt that such a state of ignorance is due to the actions of the very people who supplied the monument or those that permitted it's construction on their land.
A golden opportunity to move out of entrenched and flawed ideological positions appears to have been wasted. One can imagine the howls of indignant posturing and cries of "suppression" had an American monument to the victims of a similar terrorist atrocity in Russia received the same treatment.
The fact that news of this monument came to us second-hand via a 'true or false' website speaks volumes here.
I'll finish by re-phrasing my original queston. Why do you think so many people are unaware of this monument?
Thank you for reading.
Because our media is bought and paid for , just like our government, by the same people who are now robbing us and driving us all into the new slavery. This issue is not important enough.. they have other agendas.
Also think about it.... what was going on in 2005...
The war in Iraq was raging... and the media was in full damage control mode because our inept, corrupt leaders at the time were trying to cover their collective butts concerning the ill conceived and poorly executed, white collar lead war, (As opposed to someone who actually knew what they were doing and not so short sighted and arrogant as to dismiss the intelligence pouring in that they were walking down the wrong path..)...
That's why we didnt hear much about it.
oh for crying out loud,, you guys are really a piece of work.
"Contrary to the claim of the eRumor, the announcement of the intended memorial as well as its dedication did receive nationwide news coverage including a visit to New Jersey on September 15, 2005, by Russian president Vladimir Putin for the groundbreaking ceremony."
just because you didnt hear of it doesn't mean there's some dam conspiracy to not report it.
i remember it being reported, i guess you guys were busy playing video games or somthing.![]()
Hi, Von_Rat,
So you're saying people don't watch the news or have a limited capability to remember? Have I got that right? How do you remember it being reported? T.v? Newspaper? Radio? Where were you when it was reported? Do you recall any reaction from other people in the wake of this reporting? Would you consider it 'big splash' news or tucked away between the sport and the weather forecast? Did you personally deem it newsworthy? Does it deserve a wider audience? I never saw it, and I'm genuinely surprised it hasn't received wider coverage. Sorry to sound like a rabid journalist, but you were there, a witness to history, I'm relying on your interpretation of this event as we glide ever gracefully towards a common viewpoint and would value your input.
Thanks.
it sure seems that way doesnt it.So you're saying people don't watch the news or have a limited capability to remember? Have I got that right?
as for your other sarcasm, ill just add that i follow anything in the news having to do with russia rather more closely than most.
ive been doing that for a long long time. probaly before some here were born, for reasons i wont bother you with.
an old fart like me has witnessed alot of history. some minor stuff first hand even.
i even remember were i was and what i was doing when jfk got shot. i also remember where i was when churchill passed.
Well I don't.. and I can read.. I saw the quote you mentioned... Just because you remember it... there are probably many others who do.. but a lot who do not.... and they all didnt necessarily been busy playing video games...Originally posted by Von_Rat:

There is a lot of news that either doesn't get reported or doesn't get the coverage it deserves.... Just spend a day watching any of the major news... and when you filter out the repeat stuff, the celebrity gossip BS, the comercials, the other useless cr@p... you will wind up with very little news.
So we got the news of the groundbreaking cerewmony.. do you remember when it was actually completed? Did you hear about that at the time..? I didn't.. thats all I am saying... and it is IMO a very worthy piece of news... Who knows.. maybe it got lost in all the other 9-11 news stories... but it is a newsworthy thing.. that surprisingly a lot of people , myself included were not aware of... and it wasn't because I was playing some video game like you so condescendingly suggest.
