I just applied for a transfer to Bergen, as I was sort of a litle tired of the patrols from St. Nazaire.

As it was my first trip out of Bergen and I'm norwegian I wanted to make a good impression on the cute girls waving at me from the docks.

I laid out a neat course out of the fjords, hit timecompression to 256 and then set speed to "Ahead Standard". Then I hit <enter> and expected to get "Following planned route" or whatever the nav-guy replies. Instead we fired torpedo nr. 1, while still between the piers! I could hear the band stop playing and start laughing and pointing, while the girls on the docks obviously had lost any interrest of us as a crew.
While I tried to figure out what had gone wrong, I realized that the boat was not following the planned route! I told the nav-dude to follow course and this time he reacted! The first waypoint was allready behind us, and he started turning hard to starboard.

"NEIN!!! Not back again you Dumpfkopf! Turn south and try to follow the fjord" I ordered the rudder hard to port. But to late. The boat was heading straight for Askøy. I figuered: "Putting the boat in reverse now will be too embarrasing". We were still in sight of the docks, if they used binocleurs. Suddenly the boat hit shore at a sharp angle. "Great! Now we will have to wait for the tide too!" I thought. But then my radioman and sonaroperator sort of died! And the rest of the crew perished too! The boat was higher above water than usual, the guys on the bridge were dry and unharmed as on a regular shoreleave!

Are the Kriegsmarine that poor swimmers? Or did we all die from embarrasment?

Wow...shooting your load at 256x while leaving the pier

dying of embarassment comes to mind!

Those frauleins must be comparing notes on Kriegsmariners who have such a 'quick' release

Usually I shoot my load at what my wife experiences as 8x timecompression...
Sometimes she is so impressed that she turnens over, lost for words but with tears of joy in her eyes!

Leutennant Skarphol, heading for new position at the 6th armys naval HQ.

PS. Wonder what sort of sub I will get in Stalingrad? Must be some new secret stuff...

not to worry, we of the u-45 also died of embarassment once. we were coming back home fm a horrid mission, nothing sunk, except ourselves. so anxious to get back to wilhelmhaven that never eased down on the 512 comp rate, until finally entered port with a bang, literally. that was the sad end of my previous command.
