[SPOILERS] Operation Motherland Ending Discussion [SPOILERS]

I was curious as to what choice you all made during the final mission of Operation Motherland where you had to either kill or spare Katya Maksimova. Haruhi's plea to me to spare her to help clear the Outcast's name really got through to me, so that was my choice. I hated to make Bowman upset, but I felt like this was the right choice.

What did you all choose during this final mission?

on my first run through I turned her over to the Outcasts just to spite the CIA... I mean Bowman set the precedent in that alternate Wildlands ending snuffing El Sueno My next one I'll off her.

I don't know I kind of get on the fence.
I don't know if that's actually what the CIA wants or if Bowman had a thing for wanting to kill those responsible for the things happening here.
She was adamant on killing Sueno, and Katya is as piece of **** as sueno was.
Killing hundreds of innocent people and I think Bowman despise things like this and wants to have her way, and that is executing those responsible for these kind of ****** up things.

Being programmed by other games rewarding peaceful approaches and not killing people, I captured her (and other Conquest targets) alive thinking that I would get a better reward.

My choice was purely gameplay-oriented but in the end I don't think it mattered.

I killed her Bin Laden style and it was very satisfying for a moment. I also killed her because I wanted to please Bowman but after she told me that Haruhi was right about getting her alive, I regretted my decision to kill her. Now I will replay this for a second time just to capture her alive.

I killed her because Bowman did say that the U.S. wasn't supposed to be there, I believe. Capturing her would perhaps make for a sticky situation that would not be good for the U.S. What is upsetting is that despite the fact you did help your allies, Haruhi just wasn't grateful nor was she understandable.

She said that killing the Bodark mastermind (in Aurora) would make the Outcasts look bad because they do have a nasty history, but if the U.S. wasn't supposed to be there, then it would make sense to try and maintain deniability. Not just for the States, but for the Ghosts as well. Ever since Kingslayer (or sometime before then), the Ghosts are now a Special Missions Unit, and even though I've never been in the military, I don't think units such as Delta Force or SEAL Team Six advertise their current operations like Domino's Pizza.

Those decisions are not made at the Unit level. Higher command makes the decision on what goes public or not.

As far a kill or capture. If the mission is to kill... drop the hammer. In Haruhi's case I've wanted to drop the hammer on her since the beginning. Claim to be all freedom fighter if you want, but idealists who resort to violence don't sit well with me.

If the mission is to capture 50/50 drop the hammer.

But if your country suddenly became a tyrannical dictatorship or was invaded by another country, wouldn't you fight to restore normality?

The first would make you an international terrorist and would be illegal under international law.

The second would have you as a legitimate armed resistance. So long as you only targeted valid targets, then that would be legal.

Swinging back to point #1, Tyrrany is often in the eye of the beholder. UBL thought he was trying free his people from Tyrannical Western Overlords. In fact many people in the ME feel that way. So... I guess it depends in your morality.
