For all I criticise it as not being a free and open tactical shooter FS is actually a pretty good campaign story. It's a one off, 10 to 20 hour game play experience, but is enjoyable .Originally Posted by Virtual-Chris Go to original post
I'd not hesitate to recommend a play through. Just hold your nose during the "Diamond Formations' and play it more as an interactive film than a game and it is a well put together slice of entertainment.
Chris, FS is another non-GR game but even if linear or corridor, it is still a fun game, more so because at least the teammates won't sync shot through structures and they will tell you that they can or can't nor they are invisible to the enemy. The constant rubbing between 30K and pepper and sometimes even the whole team is just enjoyable and gives a special comic relief to the game as well. The missions are serious , mature and well thoughtout (again, for what the game is).
My suggestion would be to start it in arcade for the first playthrough and so you can get all of your challenges out of the way ( otherwise you will be yelling and screaming names at the studio when the diamond formation challenges appear) to then comeback and do another playthrough in the hardest level (well no, not the hardest, one notch below as the hardest was a typical crapped out update, a ubi effort that ruined the hell out of it because to do what that they were trying to do, which was get rid of the optical camo so to speak, they would have had to fix the whole core game and they were not about to do so).
If its around 10 bucks or less, it is not a bad pick up game.
Now back to our regularly schedule... [possible spoilers for a mission]
Talking about bad mission designs (perhaps?). I am in the northern part of the island, last province in the DLC and I pin a mission that begins at the top of a high mountain covered with bolders and rocks (ie: can't hike it, can't get to it by ground vehicle), yet there is no mission briefing by Bowman or written thext (this is the part where I think I didn't read the text of the mission explaining it completely and Nomad doesn't do one of those voice overs alerting you to it. At least a "Hmmm, something tells me I am going to need a helo to accomplish this mission).
After about spending 45 minutes to 1 hour to finally get to the top of the mountain by driving, walking and a lot of cursing (if you bet me 1 million dollars to ask me how I got there I would be as poor as I am right now.) . I popped my drone to take a look see what I was dealing with, took my time getting rid of everyone except one sentinel that took off running from the main building to the stairs going to the helo on a downstairs platform, ok cool, no need to chasing him I thought.
I get on with the mission, hacked the laptop only to get a surprised notice that I have 8 or 9 minutes to get to the next lap top? What in the name of the Fs? so I panic, get the hell out of the structure, look at my tac map and the thing shows to be not far away from what I am so take a second or two to think that by the time I do aways with the guy who escape, grab the helo and land, I can just run like hell so I jump to the side of the mountain having to use all my syringes because Nomad kept braking fingers and ribs on the way down the rocks and boulders, well, when I get to the bottom I know that it was indeed far away and there is more running to do.
Long story short, I finally get to the top of the other structure, do away with the dude is there with 2 minutes to spare (which means, in case you haven't done the math that I have been running for 6 minutes or so in real life time) but I am now whistling thinking I am golden and the king of the Missions only to discover that after this one, there is a third one and I only have 2 minutes to spare.
So, I do the next best thing one smart SF Tier 1 operator would do, and valiantly I might add in situations like this and I quit to the desktop. I did manage to finally put an end to the nightmares I was having with this mission.
Again, perhaps in my haste to start another mission in this new island, one that I was getting Azrael flyovers and Helos every 1 minute and 20seconds or 30 seconds as it changed sporadically, Fury was getting frantic something fierce advising me about it, one would assume that I am on the other side of the Island doing something else and not there with her knowing that I can also hear it, but I digress, perhaps I didn't read the whole text of the mission where it alludes me that there will be 3 timed missions and that perhaps I would need to steal a Helo before attempting to do so by driving and walking since I am only going to have 9 minutes.
Oh and , what's with nomad announcing to the world that he is about to put in his NVGs? It is cute the first 2 times but after that, I wish I could not have to go through the scrolling nightmare of having to put it nvgs. I use the Panther class for the white filter, I wish the NVGs would have a different keybind to avoid putting the green filter and announce to everyone who wants to listen that I, Nomad, King of the Tier 1 operators am about to put my NVGs on so, watch out .
Future Soldier is an uninspired mishmash of modern/near future military shooter tropes.
Watch a scripted animation of the Ghosts interacting with a door. Walk down a hallway for a few minutes while the characters vomit exposition. Watch the Ghosts open another door. Engage in a mind numbingly easy stealth sync shot shooting range. Walk down another hallway as the characters spout more exposition. Things suddenly go kinetic because the game determines its time and then...DiAmOnD fOrMaTiOn!
Ugh...what an annoying game.
LMAO… epic story. I should have used that tactic on this hostage missionOriginally Posted by FcAc-No-Moe Go to original post
I wonder gf that’s the same mission Steven was talking about. Can’t wait to get to that one.
I wouldn't go as far as to say annoying. Honestly, I may be the only one but FS is probably my favorite GR when it comes to gameplay. Despite the freedom it showed flashes of huge potential it could've had. Movement and guns felt good. Audio from guns, explosions, etc... was on point. The chemistry between the ghost was good. The environment details like being connected walking through the water was impressive. The sandstorm was good too.Originally Posted by DanHibikiFanXM Go to original post
Gunfights I can say by far the best I played in a GR game. Feels like bullets are actually coming at you harder than what you see in later GRs. Felt like I can die at any moment and being isolated to an area you didn't have much options. It was kill or be killed. Being suppressed behind cover was probably my favorite moment and entertaining moments. Everytime I had company they thought I was watching a movie on how I run, jump/roll over on walls, and suppressed in gun fights.
The explosion sounds use to annoy the heck out my neighbors when I put the volume near max. Neighbors use to call the cops on me cause of the audio and cops identified that the neighbors reported it sound like a warzone. Unfortunaley I can't get those same sounds with WL/BP but still it was good times.
When you look at it alot of features was carried over to later games like sync shot from FS. There use to be game tournaments in my area on it alongside COD 4. The highlight of FS was its PvP. The conflict mode was the best. It's too bad it wasn't carried to GW. Ultimately my favorite of FS got my wife to game. Left 4 dead started it but FS nailed the coffin for me to get her to get a console a game online.
She became QueenFratos and still game. Players use to think we split-screen but we said nope she got her own console. Next question. Yall playing the same room. Nope she got her own room, tv, console. Next question. Give me tips to get my girl to play. Dont be a commandant, co-op first, slowly introduce pvp, let her know she don't have to be a killer she can contribute just by getting Intel and be the top player. Good times. Good community.
Actually that one is a repeat mission from the original campaign, so much so that even Nomad comments on it.Originally Posted by Virtual-Chris Go to original post
It has been a loooong time since I last played the campaign game and/or the sam fisher content which was the last time I played this game in a serious way and I do recall the mission up in the mountain top but I don't remember that it was timed or that we had to get to 3 other laptops to hack?Originally Posted by Steven527 Go to original post
And I am also having a hard time understanding Nomad when he speaks and Fury I have to literally look at the subtitles if I want to understand what she is saying, which is to say that I don't remember Nomad talking about a deja vu misison but I sure would love to have remembered if that was the case.
Oh and even funnier story. No, really!
Today I decide that I am going to go do the other missions first and then return to finish this one now that I know what I have to do, ok cool so I choose the one on the far west side of the island but everytime I was getting to the near Biv the mission would disappear, did that 3 times and I decided to go do what this game is all about and it is even overwhelming at that and I went back to the Biv and started exploring around ( and in case you didn't catch the gist, Exploring is what this game is all about!) and sure and this game is crap, I went to the structure near the cave and I did remember this mission this time around and decided, what the hell, if it has people I just do away with them and pretend I am on a mission. Once I had gotten rid of half of the bad guys perhaps the mission lit up, or I noticed it only then so cool, mission was done... I kill the baddest dude in the whole cave Whooo Hooo.
Next I went back to rescue more scientist at the same place as I rescue the other ones yesterday only this time they were not in the same building and there were no ground drones and just like the faction missions where you have to steal a truck and take it to the next corner, I did the same thing with the scientist but I did have to take them longer this time, about 3 or 4 blocks so, yeah... that was glorious.
Now here is the funny part, the whole province is NOW under my command, that's right, there are no more missions to do here and the timed mission is no longer my concern, but, it does begs the question... Why waste all that island to make 2 missions in the same place and 1 very near (if you look at the map) and leave 1/3 of that island untouched?
Oh and, another gem of a question, what are the Murmurs guarding on that little stretch of the Island? is the salt more valuable there or they don't want anybody stealing the big amounts of shellfish you happen to be able to find there?
Seriously though... inquiring minds want to know!
