Ubisoft would be competing with itself if it released a "live-service, play-your-way, mil-sim" with Splinter Cell cosmetics.

Older game models can be very popular though; what Capcom did with the Resident Evil 2 remake was pretty cool. Maybe that's a decent point of reference for how traditional Splinter Cell could be updated. Focus on the micro details and build a very precise player experience. Even visually, the lights and shadows in the game aren't just cosmetics; the rules of light and shadow stealth say that casting a shadow on the player means something. The game needs to visually represent that. It's why daytime levels don't really work, and why Blacklist visually fell off--it just looked like a game--the sometimes lights meant things, other times they were just there to fill screen space.
I agree with you. Not only Ubisoft should apply their actual template to Splinter Cell because they already have other games doing that, but also because it would prevent the series from expressing its full potential and its fun stealth gameplay.
Resident Evil remakes could be a great inspiration for the series but we think what IO Interactive did with Hitman is the way to go, and showed that it works.
Splinter Cell is such a unique series and it could easily please many players who never really experienced that type of gameplay. I can easily see a successful path with Splinter Cell, a path that would satisfy both long time hardcore fans and newcomers.

By the way I got your message on Twitter, thanks again for your support

Hello all. I've been more active on reddit than here, but I kept looking some posts on the forums without logging in. Everybody already gave their opinion on the letter but if the rumor is true (that they are following the Hitman model) I think that It's worth to make another try and make our best to convince Ubisoft that we want a true return to the roots. I've read the letter and I agree with all the words in it, you made a good job. If you want to add my name in it I'm okay with that.

...and sorry If I am out ideas... I would like to help somehow but I think that everything that needed to be said, it has been said already.

Embracing what makes it special just makes the most sense. Otherwise the game's going to get lost in a sea of similar titles, and those of us who would buy it because it's "Splinter Cell" will probably be left wanting.

As we've seen, games in this series can be so much better than mediocre. I want another one.

Hey StrayDog_RR, glad to see you here and thank you for your support.
What's your nickname on reddit ? I'm also active there (L-K-B-D)

Hopefully the rumor about Hitman is true, and that's why we need to give them our feedback about it !
And don't worry about ideas. We are many fans to think the same way about the series so I'm sure you would have found the same ideas as us.

I really think there's something special with this series compared to many other series, I couldn't explain why exactly. Even when it moves away from its roots, it can still produce good games.
It would be a huge waste to not harness its full potential, especially with what modern technologies can offer.

It's StrayDog1994, we were talking about that famous post, I asked you if it was stickied... remember? XD
Yes I agree with you, If they follow the Hitman model maybe we will see sandbox maps once again and they will get rid of those forced sequences...
One thing that was passing through my mind was the interaction with the world, hopefully this time they will allow us to pick things and throw them or create different distractions.
I am actually playing Death Stranding, that game is really good, it has some stealth elements (not like MGS tho)... one thing that I liked is that you can take the item/delivery boxes on the ground and you can throw them to enemies or somewhere to make distractions, that was really cool and reminded me the early SC games and especially the original Conviction.
Let's hope that this time they hired someone that knows what Splinter Cell truly is and that they will not make Sarah a Splinter Cell agent like in the upcoming book...

    Oh yeah right, haha.
I didn't play Death Stranding but this game seems indeed to give a lot of freedom and interactions to players in a sandbox world. We sure need a bit of this in Splinter Cell, that encourages creativity and sometimes it creates emergent gameplay.
Yeah, the choice of an executive team that loves Splinter Cell and knows what it is exactly about is essential and really important. Sadly Clint Hocking is busy with AC Infinite but I'm sure they have other veteran developers who love the franchise.
