Who, in your mind, has the cash and desire to buy Red Storm and the Tom Clancy name from Ubisoft?Originally Posted by THE-GHOST1987 Go to original post
I'm probably a heathen in your eyes, since I want an open world sandbox, paired with offsite missions that have maps like GRAW [freedom to use multiple paths/tactics]. Make the open world smaller than Auroa/Bolivia, but more alive. Make all of the buildings in the GRAW style missions fully functioning, and offer them up with a community editor too. Offer a few missions in large buildings, or say in a ship too - again, preferably with some flexibility where appropriate [similar to how TD2 mixes in world missions and offsite missions]. The key here, is the community editor, that would allow folks to set-up and share more MilSim style missions and parameters.
If Ground Branch allowed me to solo, and then just pop in/out with friends, I'd be down. I don't group with Randos, because my gaming time is limited and it's not worth wasting one of the few hours I get a week with a bunch of jerk clowns if I get a bad pairing. I love their combat ideas, gunsmith [I have a thread here about this], and the new weight/stamina/encumbrance plans [something I've also asked for here] - I don't have the patience anymore to micro manage 7 AI if that ever gets released either, unfortunately. It's just a little too far into sim for me [and the Market]. I have the same issue with Sandstorm [8pack]. They both have the combat I want, but not the flexibility that GR offers.
Unfortunately for you, and many others, MilSim is an increasingly niche game market. Only an Indie Dev can tread in those waters these days. Ubisoft is too big to pour $100m into a prettier Ground Branch style game - they'll never, recoup that investment. I'm pinning my hopes on the Ghost Experience allowing them to shift Immersive Mode a little further back down the Sim spectrum, as it can still allow folks looking for full Arcade to play too. Maybe Ghost Recon can become a 4 man, slightly more open world, slightly less hardcore variant of Ground Branch or Sand Storm. I think that's the best you can realistic expect for from this franchise [though I wouldn't hold my breathe].
I'm not saying there is no market for MilSim, I'm just saying Ubi Suits won't make a game with such a narrow target market.Originally Posted by Megalodon26 Go to original post
I'd also be curious how many bought Arma 3 simply for the PUBG Mod before that became a stand alone game..
I believe wholeheartedly there is a demand for more serious tactical shooters in the console market. .....and it's not just older folks like myself and / or a tiny demographic IMO / IME. ....and I don't see how it's becoming increasingly niche. Milsim has always been a more specialized genre catering to that market. The thing is, a lot of folks draw a hard line between casual and milsim when it comes to shooters. The fact is, there is a lot of space in between.Originally Posted by Megalodon26 Go to original post
I've been meeting a lot of cool people playing Insurgency Sandstorm from all age groups in their 20's to 60's. Several veterans too. Aside from a couple immature folks here and there who are easily muted / ignored, most I have communicated with have been eager to finally be able to play a more serious tactical shooter as a team. They are thirsty for these types of games.
These more serious tactical shooters may be something currently tied to smaller studios but there is a trend starting where these companies are now wanting to delve into the console market. .....something we haven't had in a long time. If they catch on, I believe some AAA companies may take notice and want to cash in on this market or maybe add modes more tailored to that demographic.
CoD:MW 2019 was the first CoD game I picked up in many years mainly because the devs pulled back a bit on the arcadish elements to make a little more of a mature iteration of the series. My friends and I had a lot of fun in Hardcore mode which had a low TTK, no persistent radar, etc. Still, nothing close to something like Sandstorm but it was fun.
IMO, I think DICE is on to something with their Portal mode which will allow players to tailor their own games to fit their own unique playstyles. Folks will be able to create, play, share and even download and edit others creations to their own particular liking.
Some AAA companies like Ubi seem to be after the easy money taking what I guess they think is the safe route by trying to copy success. All it will take is a breakout title from one of these smaller developers or a larger company willing to take the risk for folks like Ubi to take notice. It's an extreme example but look at how the battle royale concept affected the industry. These guys see a magic formula and they all want to copy it. Few seem willing to take the risk to innovate these days or embrace concepts that haven't already proven themselves.
I for one am thankful for these smaller developers willing to tread these waters and my hope is that one day, it will catch on. I look forward to some more of these types of games we've discussed that are planed and / or already in development for console.
And this is why I don't mind giving my money to Black Foot Sudios even if the little they have done never comes to fruition. At the very least I didn't give it to the greedy lazy mediocre Companies like UBI.Originally Posted by Kean_1 Go to original post

This is a pic I took from the Westin. Note the wonderful air quality, but if you truly want a chuckle zoom in on that electrical tower and note the base is right on the highway... I never did figure that one out.
