Just Dance 2021 for Xbox One won't connect to Controller App

I just went on a trip and took my Xbox so I could play Just Dane with my friends. We never could connect the game to the controller app, even though it was on the same wifi network. When I came home it connected just fine.

Does the wifi network that the game and the controller app use have to be a secured network? That is one difference between the network at the lodge we were staying at and mine at home.

If it does have to be a secured network, is there a workaround of some sort, if we go back in the future?

Is there a way to play the game without a controller app or a Kinect Sensor? We honestly don't care about points/scores/etc....we just wanted to dance along to the people on the screen and have fun. But since we couldn't connect to the controller app, we could never move forward to actual gameplay.

    Thank you!

Welcome to the forums, BlazingBullet16, thanks for reaching out. Sorry to hear you couldn't get the game to connect to the App on another network - that's really unfortunate.

The two devices would need to be on the same local network, with a single router routing the traffic to both devices. Often, larger networks such as those found in hotels aren't designed to have other devices on the network be discoverable, because they would have so many devices connected. Sometimes, depending on the network, you might be able to choose to set up a little walled garden of devices who can communicate with each other, but this would be up to the network and how it is administrated.

The game does need a controller of some sort. We appreciate the feedback that you'd like to be able to play Just Dance without a controller at all.

Let me know if you've any further thoughts or questions about this.

Thanks so much! We were not in a hotel; we were in a lodge with an individual router, BUT the network was public, not private, and there were probably 10-15 devices connected to it.

It sounds like playing in a situation like this isn't possible at all?

Hey BlazingBullet16, it's no problem! It's a tricky one as the answer depends on more factors, so I'm afraid I can't give a straight answer. But yes, with a lot more devices connected using a public network, it's likely this is why you experienced those issues.

If you do run into issues in the future, you could always check our dedicated connectivity troubleshooting article to ensure your connection is optimal to our servers.

Thank you again! We had run through that article and checked everything we could, but it was a no go.

Is it possible to use a hotspot on a phone as a "router" for this purpose?

    Hey BlazingBullet16!

If you're able to connect your phones and console to it with enough bandwidth for them to connect up to the game, in theory that should absolutely be possible!
