People crap on CoD for being on rails and linear and run and gun and they don't give it a dime for their good story, plot and gunplay ergos but in BP they are all praises and all they care about is whether they will look like clowns or Sith Lords or just Tacticool to snub their peeps while they are getting the Lure to help catch the Big One or shoot at paper targets and the gameplay is way in the back of their thought.... go Figure

Over time I just got used to and comfortable with 3rd person. Now when I was younger I could do both easily but with age things start falling apart.
I don't know if you have tried this and I was the same as most you guys getting motion sickness when I play shooter and I find out that it was the absence of a reticle in the screen that did it for me. I have a weak stomach I guess and not having a steady or fix point in the horizon would cause me to almost vomit after a few minutes of gameplay. For the same reason there were some games that I couldn't play because they didn't have the option of having it.

I have been lucky enough to be a part of the closed console beta for Insurgency Sandstorm for the last month. While the NDA prevents me from providing any details, I will say that the gameplay is essentially what you see on YT for PC. Heck, there's even gameplay for console that you can view.

Sandstorm was originally supposed to have a campaign and they were working on it but NWI decided to stop at one point to focus on MP.

A funny thing about the coop....... This was supposed to be an addition to the PvP but it became apparent to NWI that it was much more popular than they thought it would be. I thought I heard that it was essentially a 50/50 split and to be honest, that's all I've been playing when I boot up the beta. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll get the full experience and be able to see the full potential until I'm able to play with my friends. .....I've been doing it solo.

I also got picked for the Hell Let Loose closed beta on PS5 which has run longer than they anticipated. In fact, the open beta is coming very soon. Now, that game is a proper hardcore shooter and a must to play with friends or an organized group otherwise you're likely to have a bad time. Sandstorm has dated graphics, etc. but the gameplay, sounds and weapons help let you look past that. ....Hell Let Loose, has everything including the graphics which really helps immerse you in the environment. The only problem is that it's last-gen only and all my other friends only have PS4s (they can't get their hands on the PS5). I'll be passing on that one unfortunately.

All of us are looking forward to Six Days in Fallujah though and I'm really interested in the procedurally generated map.

Maybe I'm caught up in the hype but I have a feeling Portal in BF will be a game changer if it is as exciting as it sounds. If they deliver on it, I could see a ton of possibilities to create various scenarios making the gameplay as arcadey or hardcore as people want. Portal is the only reason I will be buying BF as I think it will provide my friends and many hours of fun.

If we want to really to see a GR-killer on console, I think that may come in the form of Zero Six: Behind Enemy Lines. It is supposed to be a third person perspective shooter with a campaign and PvP. .....co-op as well IIRC. However, it is going to be a proper hardcore experience. Even the PvP will have one-life mechanics which I will assume will be in the form of a mode but it seems the devs are taking a no compromise approach.

If Zero SIx delivers on the promises, it may be the fork that some stick in GR.

I agree that Zero six sounds like the most promisin, for the TPS crowd. But there are still too many question marks around it. There's been almost no additional information added since it was first revealed. We don't even know if they are even still working on the game.

Yeah, I'm not saying anything to the contrary. It's a waiting game with that one. It's still too early in development to say anything definitive. They had one update a few months ago showing some of the progress but again, it's still really early in development.

I know that I have putting way too much emphasis on a proper GR that perhaps I am not giving other games their props but if any of these new shooters have a decent solo campaign and also a good Go-Op gameplay, I may just have to make almost everyone happy here and take my leave as it is getting harder and harder (distance wise) to see a good and proper GR experience any time soon.

I was one of the same to think this. Took me some time to realize but if you do treat or strongly compare a shooter to GR you really going to be missing out. It'll be great to have another GR-lite game but there's not much out there. Just play the game as is and throw in some tactical as a player.

Even in GTA V. we can easily switch between FPS and different types of TPS!

Kind of on a separate and semi-related note: NSW (Naval Special Warfare) is walking on eggshells these days when it comes to interacting with game studios. Some operators received some heavy punishments for consulting with Activision for COD BO2 and MW3. Rest of us had to do remedial training on unauthorized commitments and upholding the "Deed is all, not the glory" standard.

I wouldn't expect any SEAL related SOCOM stuff for awhile.
