I have been digesting the news and trying to come up with a reply. So…ugh
My first thought of the news were like “Oh ok. Sounds like rubbish fan-fic”.
Now that I have seen the cover art, I’m thinking it is going to be one of those father daughter cute kind of things. Like she won’t actually be a super spy or agent. But more of a Father Dowling Mysteries, crime solving team up. And at some point Sam will be unable to complete a task and it will be up to Sarah to put her big girl knickers on and use his gear to save the world.
Adding Kobin in seems like a loophole. “Oh noes. We are stuck in some country without gear. What will we do?” Sam- “I know a guy.”
Although I defo would buy the book if it was on audio and Elias Toufexis narrates it.
I’ll probably purchase the book, just so I have a complete set. The details though make me think this novel will sit in my daily bag for reading when I am waiting for whatever.

So, even if it weren't Sarah, the idea of any youngster coming and doing what Sam does kind of bugs me. He had decades of experience before becoming a Splinter Cell, the Splinter Cell, and that's how I like it. Even Kestrel, who IIRC was in his late twenties when we met him, was already about a decade in. He also had the right kind of temperament (a professional, not trying to prove anything), which is really important to me.
    All of that.

Side note - the first two novels written by Raymond Benson were superb. They felt as though they did fit in with the novels of the “Clancy-verse/Ryan-verse” which I had been familiar with. Probably due to the character of John Clark being a former Navy SEAL.
The next two novels still felt that way, but you could tell it was a completely different writer (at the time). The following novels seemed to get progressively further from what made the first few novels good. The latest just seemed like one long mission that was a reworked script for a side mission. There really were not that many plot twists or …I don’t know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I couldn’t feel the characters. They seemed so flat.

If they really want to make Sarah a SC agent being sent in an open world, I would hate that but they would be able to do it in SC7 and the other games and books following the Blacklist events.
But meanwhile remake the old games for hardcore Splinter Cell fans and keep these games non open world, focus on stealth and realism, with a strong and believable Tom Clancy plot. And maybe create a different timeline with these games. As long as they give us what we want and ask for so many years, I'd be happy.
I kind of hope that the remake goes well enough that they won't need to worry about that. They also already have some crossover stuff...could they just continue that path in GR? Or would that be weird?

My first thought on the cover was it looks like the Blacklist one we have as a background here, and that being on top of a train in the snow seems very unsafe. lol

Same. I think it's more about the completionist in me than anything. I do want to be objective and give it a fair chance, but they've got their work cut out for them.

Agreed. I didn't have much experience with TC at that point, but I really liked the first two SC books. The first-person thing took a minute to get used to, but then I loved it. Getting to hear Sam's voice in my head the whole time was awesome. And I liked the story, and the settings, and that it was stealthy, and I liked Sam's character being a bit more fleshed out (but in a way that felt natural).
The next couple were fine, but at that point I missed the first-person part. And then once we got to the Conviction stuff...yeah. Different vibe.

That would feel weird to my eyes but it seems that some other fans (seen on reddit) aren't bothered by the idea of Sarah becoming a SC agent. So maybe creating two different timelines or differentiate the remakes from the new games, but I don't think it's a thing Ubisoft would like to do.

Admittedly I don't do GR, so I honestly don't know how well-received "Zero" was over there. I did watch some videos of Jeff Teravainen, though, to get a feel for him as Sam...I have to say, not bad. I mean, if I could choose Ironside forever I'd do that, but if he can't do it, Jeff has a decent gruffiness.

Anyway, yeah... I think I'm just not very invested in the direction the story went post-DA, so I wouldn't mind it sliding over to another brand to make room for classic stuff here. Then Sarah can do her thing...somewhere else. lol

Having a gruff voice isn't enough. Sure a lot depends on the quality of the writing but the acting is also very essential and we haven't heard enough of Jeff Teravainen to judge him on this point.
The only thing I dislike for now about Jeff Teravainen is now he is acting on social media, liking and replying to a lot of tweets talking about Splinter Cell or Sam Fisher. It seems like he wants to force his way into the role, showing that he's here and available to replace Ironside and I just hate that kind of attitude. He is certainly a fan of Splinter Cell but when you're an actor/comedian, the decency would want for you to not force your way in and act like you want to replace one of your coworkers. And just because of that attitude, now I don't want him to become the new official for Sam if Ironside can't do it.

Definitely, she can do it... far from us
By the way talking about Sarah here's a new promotional tweet made for the book, this is quite... cringy. And I can't see how some fans can be hyped by this book while reading this

That's fair. I mostly avoid social media stuff. In general, but also I don't want to love a character and then find out that I have a conflict of personalities with the actor.

I understand your point of view, that could easily ruin the magic of the character he or she's voicing. Anyway let's hope for the best and wish a long life to Michael ironside

Yeah, it's really depressing. That looks so cheap and so cheesy. I hope they won't use this type of marketing "lines" and "catchphrases" to sell the remake or the next game.

Geez. All of that is so cringe.
Anytime I see “shared universe content” I read it as “fan fiction crossover of things that shouldn’t be cross-overed”

Not gonna lie. I thought it was a trolling post created for a Reddit battle.

The paperback's not out yet, but I did listen to a sample from the audiobook. The first word is Anna, being mispronounced. How did that slip by? Did no one know it's An-na, not Ah-na?
