I have been following threads and "reasons" for why chat doesn't work on my PC since a recent update.
I can't remember exactly when it happened but it's been a while and YES I am on Windows 7.
I have done the following and the problem still exists:
1) Uninstalled and re-installed Ubisoft connect multiple times
2) Manually opened all ports required for the chat feature (not necessary on my router but for sake of completion)
3) Gone through all processes to make sure that TLS 1.2 is enabled and available.
No other issues in games exist it's just the chat feature that is missing:
1) all previous chat records are absent
2) Right click on options for a friend and then choosing "start chat" results in nothing (nada) happening
3) opening the chat window results in a blank canvas and any attempt to double click on a friend results in .. see above.
There isn't a really good reason why this situation should happen specifically to Windows 7 however, I have not proof that people on Win 10 are not experiencing it either, it's just speculation based on what some people have said and the following article:
https://www.ubisoft.com/en-us/help/c...nect/000097837
The issue is definitely nothing to do with TLS 1.2 (in my case at least)
In fact as the chat feature was removed for a time due to Ubisoft revamping the connect interface and then re-enabling it in (June?) it really appears that something broke and needs to be looked into.
It isn't helpful to people who rely on these features to tell them to re-install, enable TLS 1.2 or ..... err .. nothing .. because it's obvious the implementation is bugged or has a major problem.
I have several Ubisoft games and quite a few that I play co-op and the chat feature is a necessary help at certain points.
I have an open ticket but it's resulted in a pointer to the above article and an attitude of "thjis is all we've got otherwise you're on your own".
Please can someone get the ball rolling on this and alert someone as to the fact that this is and should be an easily fixable issue?
To add another finding which I think shows Windows 7 isn't the issue:
Many have reported that if they try to create a group they will get "you are not authorized" . I tried this and found that it gave me the same message:
https://devtrackers.gg/for-honor/p/2...-create-groups
https://forums.ubisoft.com/showthrea...5#post15484905
One of the replies said " our team are aware of this ... ".
It would be useful to have some techie or dev to explain what issues they know about and what might be the fix for it.
My ticket has hit the wall of "fob you off" ie. I am told to upgrade to Windows 10 as its the easy answer once they find out they don't have to investigate it. I have proved this is not Win 7 and telling me to upgrade to Windows 10 is like telling me to buy a new car because one of the tail lights is not working.
Hey Louiscarr, and thank you for providing all of this detail regarding not being able to use the Chat in Ubisoft Connect. I appreciate you letting me know everything that you have tried. Could you create a support ticket here and attach your launcher logs and DxDiag file. I would like to forward these up for further investigation so please let me know when you have done so.

I already have an open ticket and just sent some pictures since I think I proved that this is an issue with the client chat. I have no problems with chat using the in game overlay.
After providing the pics they have now asked for dxdiag / msinfo but not the launcher logs. Where are those found?
I'll upload these in a few mins. My case no: 15170691
Just looked at the log file and see tons of lines that show an id that isn't mine eg.
[15332] 2021-08-16 22:10:12 [ 8024] ERROR JobHttp.cpp (153) Http status code is none for url https://channel-service.upc.ubi.com/...6-ef7b3883f430.

[15332] 2021-08-16 22:10:12 [ 8024] ERROR ChannelGetInvitesSent.cpp (65) Failed getting channels for sent invites.
I'm guessing this is the id that the savegame folder holds and it definitely isn't the same as mine. I don't want to publish it here as I think it's probably not the thing to do and I'm sure the correct ID can be looked up by you guys.
Is this the problem? It would appear that Connect is trying to retrieve someone elses chat data and that would explain the "not authorized" message when trying to create a group. But how, why?
As I say the In game Overlay chat works fine. When my friend replied to me in the overlay, Ubisoft Connect showed an orange notifcation dot on the chat icon indicating an unread message. Of course I couldn't read anything, it was blank but in the overlay I could see his answer.
And now I just get a reply (not from the person that asked for pictures or system files) giving me the standard line about TLS1.2. The Support system is infuriating because every time I get a different person who can't be bothered to read what has been said before. Back to square one because he couldn't be bothered to read the thread.
I really thought I was getting somewhere till this guy comes up with what is obviously a fob-off line without reading that I have not provided proof
1) It is nothing to do with Windows 7 and TLS 1.2
2) Windows 10 users are experiencing it (I provided 2 sources)
I provided everything that was asked of me and this guy (I have other words) comes in and couldn't be bothered with any of it. Just post a link to the article and wash his hands of. If he'd read the thread he'd have seen that this how it started but no .. he thinks he's provided information that I haven't had before.Jeez!! I'm at the end of my tether with this support ticket system, it's always the same thing and what they don't seem to have realised is that they are not only wasting our time but they are wasting thier time and money by not providing agents to take ownership.
Instead preferring to produce a schizophrenic system where one agent says something and another says something else and worst of all it's very clear that some of them couldn't be bothered to read the past conversations all he / she wants to do is clear it off the desk knowing it'll bounce on to someone else meanwhile, MY time is being wasted whilst they play these stupid games!
Hey there, Louiscarr. I appreciate you providing your case number and findings and am very sorry that you've had a displeasing interaction with our support staff via the portal. I have read through all of your information and discussions, and understand your frustration over this issue. Although it has been mentioned before to ensure your OS is updated to TLS 1.2, I would like to emphasize that you may need to have it enabled manually versus using the Windows Update feature. You can find the steps in Microsoft's guide here. Please note that Microsoft is no longer supporting Windows 7 as of January 14, 2020. Meaning, software updates from Windows Update that help protect your PC are no longer available which would be why updates are failing within your OS. If you have any other questions, please let me know.
I understand that and as I stated in the ticket - I followed that article to the letter including the manual settings in the registry.
Even then someone halfway in the thread said something like "I understand you don't want to follow the advice given previously " referring to the TLS 1.2 article.
It's just further proof that they don't bother to read the posts. I'm asked to proved proof, pictures and system files and then they ignore all of them.
You can see why I am extremely frustrated with this totally broken support system and I re-iterate that this not only hurts the customer but it also hurts you.
Another response has me uploading proof of TLS 1.2. I have a webpage that tests it plus I will show them the damn registry entries as well.
I meant to answer your last words "Meaning, software updates from Windows Update that help protect your PC are no longer available which would be why updates are failing within your OS"
1) Many of the updates are still there
2) Why is Overlay chat working then?
3) Why are Windows 10 users having similar problems
4) to correct you " updates are not failing" - any update I didn't install (usually ones to do with telemetry) are still there for the taking. Any I choose to install don't "fail".
5) Please look at the case number again and you will see another hours work from me providing incontrovertible proof that TLS 1.2 is working verified and that I have carried out the KB update and all the registry entries requires. An external test passes with flying colours.
How much more do I have to prove when all my system files I was asked to upload have been completely ignored. No one examined any of them yet I was expected to send them at the request of agent x who never gets to reply ever again.
As I say the system sucks big time because you could be solving cases at 10 times the speed just by providing some continuity and getting agents to follow through. It really is beyond belief but the prices you charge for games is still high even when they should carry the disclaimer "at this price we don't supply decent support". The ticket system is just attrocious and anyone that has looked at it with efficiency in mind cannot fail to recognize the massive flaws.
Next agent I get can be someone too lazy to answer but even if I get a good one what's the point they never interact after asking me for some evidence, proof, p[pictures system files, leaving it to the next guy who thinks, I need to go home to the wife in a bit [cut - past "have a nice day"]
I'd apologise if I thought this was harsh but it aint. sorry
