I understand social trends and influences — but in all honesty it seems disproportionate the platform this group gets, compared with others.
I recently read the FAR CRY 6 Narrative’s directors statement on the themes and politics of the game. And there it is again ‘LGBTQ+ rights’ is a focus….
Why is LGBTQ+ such a focus? Why does it seem to be prioritised over everything else.
I don’t see the same push for other groups that affect many more people.
What about Racism, Black Lives Matter, injustices and inequalities that still persist in many supposedly modern enlightened societies? Pride month comes around — so many companies make a point of supporting it, and consistently year after year — but fighting racism…? Mmmmm I do not think the same can be said at all.
Of course, during the peak of BLM you get the virtue signalling, media/companies they do token gestures when it’s advantageous to be seen to be doing so….
But what about disability? Or mental health — fighting stigma and pervasive ignorance of the issues and challenges facing so many in the population. And how our society has, broadly speaking, made minimal effort to accommodate and support such populations even in light of the dire widespread need!
I work in mental health. It’s incredibly frustrating to see how little funding and focus it gets. Mental health affects 1 in 4 people! It’s a massive problem. But gets very very little push in popular media.
The gay population varies around the world but in most western countries sits around 2%. That’s not a large number compared with the other groups mentioned. And the Gay population is by far the largest within its own group with each subsequent letter / category in LGBTQ+ affecting significantly smaller numbers.
So it’s not right larger groups facing different issues get sidelined.
I just don’t think it’s fair how larger populations and by virtue of that fact, expressing a bigger need, does not get the same consistent platform in popular media.
So yes, whilst any reasonable person would agree any disenfranchised group within society needs to have their voices heard on the issues/challenges they face — but let’s get the balance back !
There are other serious issues affecting far more people that continue to be ignored and unaddressed.
An odd and rather ill-informed thing to say.Originally Posted by LaMOi Go to original post
The quote you appear to be railing against is from the blog written by Navid Khavari, the Narrative Director of Far Cry 6, two and a half months ago.
https://news.ubisoft.com/en-us/artic...s-of-far-cry-6
"Our story is political. A story about a modern revolution must be. There are hard, relevant discussions in Far Cry 6 about the conditions that lead to the rise of fascism in a nation, the costs of imperialism, forced labor, the need for free-and-fair elections, LGBTQ+ rights, and more within the context of Yara, a fictional island in the Caribbean."
The blog sets out (I'll repeat them) some of the issues that the population of Yara are struggling with:
- the rise of fascism
- the costs of imperialism
- forced labor
- the need for free-and-fair elections
- LGBTQ+ rights
- and more
Is a fictional repressive regime one that may be expected to target minorities? Seems a rational plot point, there are scores of countries where gay people are routinely castigated and worse. A third of the world's countries make it a criminal matter, including 6 where a death sentence is imposed.
Is this being 'prioritised over everything else' as you say?
Well no, it's the 5th point mentioned.
And what about prejudice against black and disabled people? I guess that's under the 'and more' category. Whichever way you cut it, the people of Yara are having a hard time.
Pretty sure that in a frozen in time dictature, LGBTQ+ rights would be quite down the line of things that would ignite a rebellion. It's part of the problem for sure, but i'd expect people taking arms against the army because of slave work and murders rather than homosexuals being sent to prison. That's what happens today in still many countries. I would not expect LGBTQ+ rights to be that much of a concern for Yaran guerilleros, especially if the power hangs or shoots you indiscriminately first.
No one should be oppressed. LGBTQ+ as well.
Prersecute for sexual orientation is unacceptable in the 21st century.
Problems of racism and nationalism should be raised again and again in the game.
I have nothing against BLM.
I support them in their struggle.
Mostly people who don't like them or mockingly critisize them.......they just don't understand them.
They have never been in the shoes of an Afro-American.
Saying them - "All lives matter!" - is a travesty. Mockery and abuse.
It's like to level out their entire struggle.
Everyone understands that all lives matter but their effort and struggle should be understood as well.
