What mechanics would you like to see in Sparks of Hope?
It's great to see the Rabbids are here to stay in Mario's universe, and Sparks of Hope looks gorgeous. But behind its visuals, we need to think about its gameplay. I have no worries about the game disappointing us, as M+R:KB was very good, but there's definitely room to improve the formula and add new mechanics.
On that front, what kinds of new gimmicks and tricks do you think the game should have? I have my own list here.
- Mind Controls. The big bad of SoH seems to be controlling Bob-ombs and Rabbids, so it's safe to say that Mind Controls could be a thing for the enemy to use. XCOM players have always been terrified of Mind Control attacks (and for good reason), so it'd be horrifyingly hilarious to see the Rabbids do it to Mario and the gang (somehow).
- Stealth. It'd be just like a jerkass Rabbid to turn himself invisible and then attack you from behind. Seekers in XCOM: Enemy Within were a very unique enemy that you didn't want to take lightly, especially if you were playing Long War. It'd be really nifty to see stealth mechanics in SoH, especially if you could use them against the enemy. They'd be perfect if we get Waluigi in the roster.
- Proximity Mines. These would be perfect as a secondary weapon for Rabbid Rosalina, given how apathetic/lethargic she is. Just drop one down and wait for a Rabbid to blunder into it. Of course, the enemy would probably be allowed to set down mines too, but you'd be able to destroy them from a distance. To keep them from being potentially "cheapass", the mines would need a limited lifespan (i.e. 3 turns) before expiring, so you can't just flood a map with mines.
- More characters! Rabbid Luma and Rabbid Rosalina are awesome additions, but I'd throw my wallet at you guys if you added the Wario Bros. Wario, in particular, would be such a funny addition. It'd also be awesome if you could add Daisy to the roster; she doesn't get enough representation. Oh, and make sure Yoshi doesn't come in so late this time, please?
- Accessories. The only equipment we could really purchase in M+R:KB was new weapons, but those didn't help against enemies who would Honey or Ink you. Well, add in some kind of "Accessory" category for new equipment, one that enables you to provide utility bonuses to your heroes. Said utility could include immunity to specific status ailments (one at a time, so you can't be immune to Honey AND Freeze simultaneously), or perhaps some minor stat buff (i.e. +1 movement range) if you don't need immunities for a specific battle, or maybe some other utility (i.e. health regeneration). This would help a lot with customization and strategy, especially by letting you avoid getting screwed by Bucklers.
- UI and Options improvements. The ability to turn off the music (don't get me wrong, the soundtrack was awesome), the ability to reconfigure your skills more smoothly, and so forth. I'm sure you've already heard the critiques, so I won't repeat them.
