Sure I understand that a lot of you have been asking for decent content for the TC's titles like Ghost Recon or Splinter Cell or are desperately waiting for a new title within these series. Some of you might feel like being disappointed again and again by Ubisoft. And yes, I understand that this game / gameplay is not in line with other TC titles, and therefore you could ask to which extent is XDefiant worth of the TC's brandname.
The way I see it, and I start with that I could be completely wrong with any assumptions I make:
Look at the title: XDefiant: first of all:' Defiant', which could be described as not doing as is being expected from one. Second, the 'XD': it might even refer to the emoji for laughing, excitment and joy (yes, I had to Google it, not that Google is always right....Don't tell them I said that by the way). For me this title looks like Ubisoft saying: this game is for fun, excitment and joy, and in addition is defently not adhering to what is expected from a TC title. From the gameplay that I have seen, it sure looks like Ubisoft is making that true.
Is that a bad thing? In my opinion, no. Look at is as a new free-to-play game (not saying it's not a pay-to-win as I don't know the extra game content that can be bought). A game that states by it´s title that although its tied to TC, its not what you expect from a TC title. Something that perhaps is created for a target group that does like the TC's characters, but also like more arcade shooters or for those that like arcade shooters and are not familiar with the current TC's brandname yet.
Sometimes we just have to face that some games match with what we like, and others might not. I would say: give the game a try and discover if it is really that bad or if it might be your guilty pleasure.
Personally i dont hate it because its pvp driven, but because it has the Tom Clancy name on it. If i was just the XDefiant name on i wouldent care too much, i mean personally i have played lot on pvp based shooters as CSGO Battlefield and even a pvp game called Delta Force in the 90s. But now that in my 30s i prefer tactical co-op third or first person shooter, with good missions personally i get more fun out of that. I have never been a Esport type player so i get its fun, but i think PVP shooters are overhyped. Just look at what happened with Hyperscape another pvp shooter from UBI, they tried too copy Fortnite Valorant and those games it was a fiasco.
My problem is only the fact that its branded as a Tom Clancy game. This point isn't new and as been already thourghtly debate: Clancyverse is known to be rooted in somekind of realism or at least some variation of reality that somehow can be believable (or something among those lines).
XDEFIANT, on the other hand doesn't seem to be based upon a plausible scenario. If, like Andr0s28 wrote earlier, it wasn't branded as a TC game it wouldn't bother me that much.
Also, it nourrish some angst among the GR community because, I believe, we fear that this is only the first step for the studio to further chip away what we appreciated about GR games (realism, plausibility, etc...).
I hope this few lines can help you better understand at least my point of view
.....seems you answered your own question.Originally Posted by rijstpudding Go to original post

....but if you like it, then play it. IMO, it's just further dilution and sullying of the TC name / franchise but that has been going on for a while. I hope XDefiant falls flat on it's face quite honestly just as Breakpoint did and TC's Elite Squad.
Do you know what FPS shooters I am interested in though? Battlefield 2024 is one. Well, not the main game so much as the new Portal mode that was announce. I was iffy on the game at first but hooked on the Portal reveal.
Also, I'm looking forward to Insurgency Sandstorm which is currently in beta testing for console. I'm hoping to get to try it out before release if I get chosen. They will have several rounds of tests so there is hope. I wouldn't be surprised if they have an open beta as well.
Another is Hell Let Loose which is being ported from PC. It will only be for next gen though so I may wait until my friends get theirs first. This is mass scale WW2 battles with milsim gameplay. This one is slated for release this year as well.
The last FPS I am hoping is also coming this year is Six Days in Fallujah. I love that the maps will be procedurally generated to provide gameplay that is different each time. Again, like most of the others, this game has more of a focus on authenticity, more realistic mechanics, etc. than a game like XDefiant. That is why I am interested in them and that is what used to interest me in the Tom Clancy games as well when that used to be their focus. ......you know, more in line with what Tom Clancy was about. Ubi used to understand that.
Honestly I don't think the hate is warranted given that they're using TC lore. Yes I do get the fact they're using the TC name and that normally TC games are grounded in some form of realism or relatable gameplay. However, it is using characters and lore established by the TC games ubi has done.
I also can't accept the argument that it somehow means future TC games in existing franchises will suffer. I don't think by having this game come out, it will mean they won't pursue further games in existing IPs. It just might not be the exact game you want.
Also for those who keep saying "I hope XDefiant falls flat on its face" that really is just disrespectful to the Devs and support staff who are passionate about creating a fun game for FPS fans.
Wrong its dsrepspectful from Ubi said against us the gamers, after all we buy the games so i think we desverve respect from the devs. My point is most of us wanted a Wildlands 2 after the huge sucess Wildlands was and still is, if UBi Paris would communicated more with us Breakpoint would never seen the light. Plus they wouldent seek out this FTP trend, like i said i dont hate pvp games. But i dont think UBI should go down this route, i mean just look at Skull and Bones that game has changed route several times since 2013. And they still havent decide if it should be pve or pvp, so dont get me wrong here man. But i think Tom Clancy should allways stay under SP third person shooters, pvp games like XDefiant should never use the Tom Clancy brand period.
The point is that XDefiant is seen as yet another example of the direction Ubi is taking with the TC IP vs. making games TC fans want. It's not just that it is the "exact game" people don't want. It's much broader than that and the reason why it's received so much criticism. If you don't accept that, that's fine. I don't expect everyone will but then again, the OP created this thread asking why.Originally Posted by Dead1y-Derri Go to original post
I say I hope it fails because that is all Ubi seems to respond to. GR customers and fans have been begging for better communication, Ubi has said they will improve in this regard but have failed to deliver on that.Originally Posted by Dead1y-Derri Go to original post
The polls and scramble to implement changes to BP would not have come without the failure of that game The thing is, they could have have avoided all of this if they had simply listened to the overwhelming amount of feedback they received during Wildland's life cycle. Much of that feedback has been echoed here in the BP forums. This huge series of missteps comes off as a company that really doesn't listen to it's fans / customers like they say or take their feedback seriously unless the chips are down.
When Ubi starts listening and gets back to a vision deserving of the TC legacy, then I might have more respect for them and their products.
As for XDefiant, color me unimpressed. It doesn't evoke feelings in me of admiration for the game or the team that created it. Why should it? What does it matter to me how passionate someone is about making the game? The workers who make my GE oven may be passionate but if it's a crap product, it's a crap product. I won't feel admiration toward them or the oven I purchased. ....I feel the same way about games.
This idea that a company is automatically entitled to a level of appreciation for these products is rubbish IMO. I'm not personally attacking anyone, making personal insults, etc. I'm keeping this about the product and the company.
As I said, I hope it doesn't do well because that seems to be the only language Ubi understands, their bottom line. .....and maybe if they take enough hits they'll finally change tack and start listening.
It seems to me there is no need to have a discussion on this subject when you have answered your own question and perfectly well I might add.Originally Posted by rijstpudding Go to original post

Honestly, I can't say much about it other than I don't play multiplayer only games. I prefer single player games, preferably offline-only. However, if XDefiant had a single player bot mode, I might give it a try. I know, bots, but I don't play online with other people. If it does well, good for the game, the devs, and the people who like it.
This is some ridiculous corporate shilling, anti-consumer BS. I gotta be honest. We pay money for these garbage products and you want more? Jeezus.Originally Posted by Dead1y-Derri Go to original post
