I believe this game has the potential to have a great competitive scene, which would increase its popularity overall. However, for that to happen, I believe there needs to be some key items that need to be included either at launch or shortly thereafter. I'll list the ones that come to mind immediately, and may add to this later:
1. Match Replay mode.
This would enable teams to really dissect their gameplay, determine their strengths, weaknesses, and better understand the way they shoot, move, and communicate. As well as learning from the enemy and potentially coming up with new tactics and plans to overcome that enemy, especially if what the enemy was doing completely blew up whatever plans were in place initially.
2. Robust Ranked mode.
Yes, overall, your rank doesn't truly matter as far as the competitive scene goes, but it is a good place to start in determining who you want to recruit for your team or if you want to join a team. It also gives players some instance of practicing different tactics in a more competitive setting, instead of casual mode where people may just be screwing around in, which would make learning new tactics almost useless. This is also helpful for new teams who don't know who or how to scrim, by allowing new teams a place to work on their basic communication skills, in a somewhat competitive environment, prior to them trying to scrim against more competent teams right away.
3. Weekly/Bi-Weekly/Monthly Tournaments.
By this, I mean holding tournaments that offer prizes to all players to compete. This could be the free premium currency, unique skins for weapons/characters, etc. Holding tournaments like this in-game allows players to see what they're made of, before trying to get into more serious competition. You could even limit the players who join. You can hold tournaments that are pro-player specific, and tournaments that are for everyone else. This allows pro-players an opportunity at the unique items, while allowing other players who aren't pro, an opportunity at the items as well, without having to worry about getting completely destroyed by the pro-players.
4. In-Depth Team/Clan System.
If this can be implemented in a way where players have their own individual page that showcases their player stats (casual, ranked, and tournament), along with their faction of choice, main characters and abilities, and preferred weapon setup, including a graph that shows their progression, or regression, of skill. I believe this would be huge. It incentives players and clans to show off their stats and perform well.
5. Heat Maps.
Supplemental to the Match Replay Mode I mentioned above, having Heat Maps to show where you died most often, killed most often, with what character, weapon, etc., provides even further insight into your playstyle and offers you another way to learn and improve. Having the option to also show where your teammates were at the time of your deaths/kills, and vice versa (where you were during their deaths/kills) can really help hone in on improvements and match analysis.
6. Detailed Match Statistics.
We have all seen it before, people flaming one another for the highlighted K/D/A, without taking into account any other context. Allowing players the option to go into the Match Statistics, in detail, can really help teams determine who is holding the team back, was it just a bad game, who has the most consistency, accuracy, damage output, etc.
I do believe that these would be huge for the competitive scene of this game and, in reality, any competitive game. These are key items that I believe would help all players looking to improve, and definitely help professional players (and those looking to go pro). All these tools would allow pro players to constantly push the meta in different directions and keep the game fresh and alive.
I welcome all feedback and if anyone feels that they have other ideas, please include them in this thread.
All of this looks really nice and I agree with the basic ideas associated with each point. I really hope the ranked mode (if they end up making one) has a good MMR system like R6S. Also it's not really a huge deal and it's just a personal preference but I hope if they go in the direction R6S did the icons for each rank are distinct and look aesthetically pleasing.
The only suggestion that I wouldn't miss is if they decide to not add it is a clan / team system. I've never been a huge fan of these types of systems when executed specifically on FPS and free-to-play games and the basic functions / necessities are pretty much all covered by Discord (voice chat, recruitment, etc).
Regarding a tournament system I like the idea and I hope if they do go with rewards they're actually worth going for unlike in other games.
Overall a good post and at the very least I hope a few of these are added!
I think the summary system of how you were killed eg headshot , body etc is a good system and they did this in games like Escape from Tarkov , you can almost pinpoint when it's head shots for all your team members who is a legit player and who is suspicious (possibly cheating)
as long as there is no in-game chat as it makes the whole game toxic as all hell and stop people spamming music etc , maybe just give them 1 minute of chat at the end of the match for the trash talk
@ScholarLuma
Yeah, I can see the argument there for the clan system not being essential. I mainly put it there for the most up-to-date information, while also being accurate, since the game is within the game itself, and websites that try to gather stats can be very, finicky, to say the least.
Yes, the rewards for the tournaments have got to be worth it to some extent. Though, I guess you could say the worth of something is rather subjective, which is why I included the option for the chance to win premium currency.
@AU_Nexus691
Being able to see where you got hit sounds great! Let's you know if you're sticking out a little too much, on top of the reasons you gave.
I would disagree about the in-game chat not existing. As long as there is a functional mute button at launch, I think it's okay. People can be toxic, but there might also be a new friend on the other team you want to queue up with later, or even a potential team to be formed from that.
All suggestions are really good. I'd like to see the clan system look something similar to modern warfare 2019s Regiments where you can join a handful of different regiments and be able to change your clan based on who you're playing with and share benefits that you contribute with. It's a clean system and allows you to always party up even if one of your clans you're a part of are busy.

I'm glad you like the ideas. A lot of this is based on my experience in and around esports, as well as paying attention to the competitive scenes when I have the time. The Regiment idea you mentioned sounds pretty cool. I haven't really been into Call of Duty in a number of years, though each year, I keep thinking "maybe this one will be good", and each year, I'm disappointed lol.
Not to derail your thread but I totally get where you're coming from. It's the reason this game attracted me as I am COD fan and each year I buy it and each year I'm more disappointed in the last. I still tell myself it'll get better but it doesn't.Originally Posted by I_Am_Jackal_ Go to original post
I think if the game has a good competitive nature, that's ripe for esports then it'll be a good game. It needs to have the features to support esports because Esports do tend to attract more players.
I just thought of something else:
1. Make specific movements unable for you to hold ADS. As in the player cannot continue to ADS while jumping, sliding, vaulting, and going into a prone position.
This ensures that players would need to maintain their quick thinking to figure out the best course of action. Allowing for a more tactical feel, in general.
I get you mean, and no worries.Originally Posted by Dead1y-Derri Go to original post
With the influx of people joining, I'd figure I'd give this a bump since it seemed to get some good traction early on in XDefiant's reveal cycle.
For all those that are new, let me know your thoughts on this and maybe, if this gets popular enough, the devs will implement some, if not all, of these features.
