Thanks for the effort I know the team put in to create this game, however, how is it different from OW, Rogue, or Valorant (for example)? We have games that are the same already - pick a character (that you can customize), pick weapons and factions, have an alt... now go fight... We need something original that doesn't exist already. There is a vacuum that needs to be filled. Major outside the box thinking - i can give you a few examples off the rip.
Any game that is in a genre like "arena-style" will be compared to OW, Valorant, and CS:GO, depending on what is available to the players game mechanics-wise. To say this isn't original is false because they are taking their IPs and making them their own in this arena game.
From a fps standpoint, at this stage in videogame creation, it is almost impossible to create something that "doesn't exist", and even if they did, it's a huge risk that might fail. Do you remember Lawbreakers? It had elements of other games that people could compare to, but the devs made it their own with the anti-gravity stuff. It was unique, but it failed miserably, despite it actually being a fun game.
I think your concerns are very well waranted, seeing that we don't have much information, besides the reveal trailer, to go off of. A lot of the feedback I've seen on YT kind of reflects your sentiments, many worrying that the game just seems to be too generic and undefined in its identity to stand out from the competition. To a certain degree, I agree with those sentiments, however, I think we all need to play the game first before we can make a fair judgemnet of the situation.
If we can actually establish a full fledged dialogue with the devs working on the game though, I think we can help the devs carve out the identity of this game, since we could have a real hand in steering the title into a direction that would make it into a truely unique title that can offer an unique experience to players. At least that's my hope.
One of the primary things that comes to my mind, when thinking about how to make this game help to stand out, is the game modes. If the devs can come up with some more complex objective game modes, or simply modes that are more unique and work with the gameplay loop, we might be able to see something great come out of this.
I'm sorry I went on such a long tangent there, but I do see a lot of potential in this project, if its done right.
This. A lot of potential but marketing and targeting is off the rails currently and I really hope they will step up their game when it comes to communications. The game is not that early in development as it seemed a few days ago. Playtesters and Consulting staff played it over a year ago (e.g. theExclusiveAce). They used all the assets from The Division 1 and 2 so they should now focusing on polishing and gameplay - hopefully they can bring it soon and that the game will be good. We don't need and don't want another Hyperscape: A game that no one asked for in a already crowded space without any standouts. XDefiant needs to nail it with modes and gameplay. So far it seems all very ... well, "saw that already in Overwatch and Call of Duty".but I do see a lot of potential in this project, if its done right.
