Well based on this gameplay trailer I assume there's variety of weapons the players will enjoy using. Here's my take:
In resolver weapons, the first I seen is the sardine can-compressed nail gun which fires nail that akin to a shooting blade as a projectile since it has sharpness that impale enemies through. The second weapon I saw is some type of either battery-powered railgun or telsa/lightning cannon which will either shot electrical discharge to electrocute enemies or penetrate enemies even through walls. The third weapon is motor engined minigun that fires volley of bullets at a faster rate. The 4th weapon is a cd disc launcher that fires ricochet discs while play macarena. The 5th weapon is fueled flamethrower that incinerate enemies to ashes. The 6th weapon is a explosive fireworks launcher that acts as a rocket launcher by firing volley of fireworks that has a homing component while explodes on impact. The 7th & weapon I see so far is a tactical crossbow that fires harpoons which will pins enemies I guess. Now I have 3 ideas for resolver weapons. The 3 ideas are a liquid nitrogen fueled cryo gun which will freeze enemies in place, some type of leaf blower or shockwave weapon that will repels enemies and objects away, & lastly a toxic based weapon like a gas dispenser that fires poison gas which will gag(suffocate/retch) enemies & taking damage over time. That's it for resolver, now for Supremos.
In supremo backpacks I seen 4 so far which they are a flammable jetpack that incinerate enemies & possibly melts objects, enemies' armor & projectiles by creating 360° fire wave while also limited hover at the same time, a explosive mortar/missile launcher that will fires a volley of guided explosives which bombards enemies & objects(missles barrage), a third backpack(a coil based) will be a electrical based that will electrocute enemies & disable electronics by creating 360° electric field, & the 4th & final backpack I see so far(a bucket w/ fridge based) which I have 4 ideas this will become. The 1st is a ice-based that freezes enemies & extinguish fires , toxic based that gags enemies, oxidizes equipment/armors, & inflicts damage over time, a vacuum based that will pulls enemies & objects, & finally a healing based that will heals the player and their allies. My own idea for a supremo backpack will be a shockwave based that will create a 360° shockwave which repels enemies & objects away from the player.
That's it for me. Let me know what's your thoughts about it & I want to hear about your own resolver or supremo idea in a comment. A good guerrilla should always be vigilant & never surrender to anything.
MechX152, how do you understand cryo gun freezing enemies in guerrilla warfare?
I think it's more for sci-fi games.
For sci-fi Far Cry may be.....
But even in this case weapons should be closer to reality.
Gameplay - is one of the most important thing in the games.
To create an interesting gameplay is job one.
But it shouldn't be out of contest and it shouldn't spoil immersion.
What is successful open world?
When you play in this open world and forget about the missions and the story itself.
You're playing....playing....gameplay of the open world is so exciting, looting, crafting, enemies....that you just don't need any missions and story. (but they must be, and good one.)
When the gameplay of the open world, its life - is self-sufficient.
You even don't want any missions or something that will distract you from this interesting world.
In this case Open World is good.
Immersion is one of the important component of this open world gameplay.
And sci-fi weapons in non sci-fi game will spoil it, I think.
But!
Some weapon's exaggeration can be.
Like that backpack.
Exaggerations can be of two types:
1) That spoil immersion.
2) Doesn't spoil immersion. Makes the gamplay only more interesting. Acceptable exaggeration.
For developers is important to feel the line.
The line separating acceptable exaggeration from unacceptable.
When exaggeration turns from positive to negative.
And sci-fi weapons in non sci-fi game are closer to unaccepatable exaggeration.
Well you are right those are more like sci fi. HOWEVER, cryo gun or freeze cannon can be made homemade using everyday objects as well like you can use a liquid nitrogen fuel tank & some type of item that pressured the liquid into supercooled gas of cold water vapor that can both freeze stuff and extinguish fires. You see weapons like the freeze gun has already made before sci fi exists. In another word, cryo gun is actually a becoming a reality already if u understand science, specifically thermodynamics and cryogenics. Since is A open world game and cryo gun is already been made in real life using modern equipment, this is not spoil. I hope u understand that, but yes immersion one of the most components other than gameplay. So I hope clarify some.
Don't you think, MechX152, that something like ability to freeze enemies will make the game less hardcore.
It will be something like slow motion in shooters.
Something that will spoil the game making it easier and less challenging.
RDR2 developers' mistake.
The last thing the western needed is slow motion shooting.
Another case was slow motion in Days Gone.
When a huge horde was running towards you.
Don't you think that such ability to freeze enemies will make the game less challenging?
Slo-mo shooting mechanics are great. If syringes return, I wish they'd add a syringe that gives you slo-mo. Dead-eye in RDR2 is the best part about it's combat and a huge factor in making Days Gone's combat tolerable. I've never played a game that had slo-mo and felt it was a mistake on the developer's part to include it, but I have played plenty of games that would've benefitted from having a slo-mo mechanic. It's a reductive argument to suggest slo-mo is purely about difficulty reduction.
Syringes were a great idea, poorly executed. Most of those were pretty much useless sadly. Yet a slow motion syringe like what as called "eye of the fly" would have been pretty cool.Originally Posted by HorTyS Go to original post
Well GameGuru2018, it depends. I want this game to have common status effects like burn(fire), shock(electricity), posion/gag[coughing & choking](toxic), freeze/slow(ice or time), blind/disoriented/stunned/deafen(light & sonic), etc. Status effects are very important to open world games, have u forgotten? Every open world games should have a least 3 to 4 basic status effects(fire, electricity, toxic & ICE). That's all I know u going to disagree w/ me, but that's the fact and the truth.

When will you undertand that?!
Developers should impose restrictions inititially.
Because gamers will choose the path of least resistance.
If it's possible to use some weapon or perk that reduces resistance - they will use it.
They will use it and will kill challenge, which means they will kill the game itself.
Hell is paved with good intentions!
"Player choice" philosophy is a way to hell.
