    Skill Based Gameplay

    Hiya,

I tried skill based explosive build with the Artillery Turret and Stinger Hive for close range AoE and i am on normal difficulty and trying to do a tier 3 control point on my xbox character and well, i have 10 artillery shots, each one doing 1.6mil damage and the stinger hive doing roughly 1.6-2mil damage and it doesn't make a dent on the armoured elite...i killed named elites with 2 hits, all 10 shots made no dent what so ever, stinger hives did nothing, i had to use my assault rifle....which kinda defeats the point of skill based combat.......i still have to use my weaponry.

This is why i think skills shouldn't have their own tier and should use the highest one the player has, red or blue......but that is just me.

How the hell do players do heroic with the explosive build...from my view, it is impossible.

Normals, Veterans, Elites and Named Elites die in 1-2 hits of my artillery and if they get out of the range of it before it makes impact, they get hit with my stinger hive, yet, the armoured elite can take all 10 artillery hits AND all 14 stinger hive attacks.......and not even a single dent.

    How do people do it??

Never made an effective explosive build, so I'm not best placed to comment, but I know that with heavies, explosive damage is spread over all their armour plates, which is why they don't seem to take much damage from them. Stinger also counts as explosive damage, so presumably that's the same. Explosive builds are very popular though, especially in Legendary strongholds, so they must have a way of dealing with them - most likely shooting out one of the plates with a gun then hitting them with the skills. It'll also work better wtih more players, because that means more enemies (which makes the AoE more useful) and other players can help deal with the heavies.

    Instead of stinger hive
I myself find it very usefull to use cluster seekermines
But I use them to start every fight.
And if you have to use them again (because of more waves)
Throw the seekers a little bit behind them.
Or else they run away while the mines are coming at them.

    Turret:
Throw the turret away from you or put it down at your cover but left or right from where you sit.
So when your turret is focused by enemy's you can shoot them without their "missed shots" hitting you because you pop right up behind your turret.

    More experienced tactic:
Put your turret close to the door where they spawn.
This way you can spam mortars at them.

Not too close ofcourse, because it doesn't shoot in its own explosion radius.
Also if you put the turret on a high object you can aim a bit closer towards the turret.
Only you can't shoot far this way, it will hit the ceiling and bounce straight down or back.

    Armoured elite:
I guess by armoured you mean Heavies?
If so I think they have a lot of explosive resistance.
Or all the damage from a mortar is spread to every armor piece on him.
The moment you see a heavy kill him first.
(But maybe it's better to kill every other enemy first in heroic.)
Shooting is the best indeed, heres how I do it.
    - The turret's mortar staggers him.
You can shoot him a little bit when that happens.
    - He tries to kick the seeker mines.
You can shoot him there as well.
    - you can also stay in cover and shoot your turret until he's focused on the turret.
Now you can shoot him also.
    - Keep shooting the same piece I always go for chest.

You can also go with a striker drone.
The Striker drone distracts him the most but gets destroyed really fast. (In legendary at least)
I only play legendarys so I don't know how you can't kill him fast.

I think you should go in legendarys for a couple days or a week.
Even if you hate doing them, after a week of doing that you improve in playstyle and heroic will be like challenge or even hard mode by then.

If you die in legendary look at how others play.
Most just hide in the back and let their skills do everything.
Don't copy that, that's the easiest way.
Look at the ones that run in, they know what to do.
Let me pause right there... lol
Also don't look at the guys that RUN run in and die in the middle of the room within 3 seconds.
Best way for me to explain it is:
Meet the enemy's at 30-40% in the room.

I guarantee you when you know how to survive in a legendary, heroic is easy or way easier.

I don't know what build you use
    But this is mine:

    Demolitionist ofcourse
1 China light (bag with perfect shock and awe)
2 grupo (both rolled to skill tier)
    1 Wyvern
1 Providence (perfect glass cannon, rolled to skill tier)
    1 waveform

But i recently know that glass cannon is trash.
So I'm gonna make a different one.

For an easy explosive build go with:
1 China light (perfect shock&awe still)
    3 Empress (chest kinetic momentum)
2 Hana-U (or Wyvern and Waveform)

so...... you're complaining about having to use your gun with a skill build. just because you are built for skills doesn't mean you shouldn't have to use your gun. That's the whole reason talents like in-sync and combined arms exist. The devs don't want you to just sit in cover and only use your skills. that's pretty boring.
