The Issue with Game Modes & Permanent Content Vs. Temporary Content

    Game Mode Issues
Once again we have another event mode that's already dead in 24 hours, at least on PC. I think future game modes need to put players in historic situations that have been and are still popularised in films and TV. Emperor's Escape is the only event mode in recent memory that stayed popular throughout the event and I think it's because it touched on those historical fantasies players wanted to experience. A siege mode was in huge demand because of the castle siege fantasy and so we got Breach as a result. If they balanced Breach for the competitive scene, I think For Honor will hit a major stride in this aspect but I digress.

I appreciate the focus on folklore in this season; that aspect always needed more attention and I want the devs to keep it up. However, future game modes need to focus more on historical fantasies players want to experience otherwise this trend of event modes being dead in 24 hours will continue. Folklore and game lore elements can be there but not as a substitute for the historical experiences many are after. That's my take on it at least.

One solution would be for the devs to issue a survey on what type of game modes would players want to see in the future and why, and the issue they have with the existing modes. Would a new permanent game mode that can be improved with each season be the solution or focusing more on new maps for the existing popular modes? The effort put into these temporary modes seems to be wasted every season.

Dead game modes like Death Match and Tribute also need to be removed and Tribute's maps should be adapted for Dominion at least. More maps from the campaign should also be adapted to the popular game modes.

Ranked game modes need a revamp. Ranked Duels should be taken out of beta with better rewards and an improved ranking system. The same can be said for Ranked Dominion which should return to complement the Dominion Series.

Arcade mode, to me, is a boring experience. You're fighting against bots with very little context and you have to beat them in a more mechanical fashion than normal. However, the ways to improve Arcade include:
    • adding online matchmaking so owners of the Marching Fire expansion can be matched with each other instead of needing to use friend invites for co-op
    • reworking chapters of the campaign so they can be experienced with any hero on the roster
    • adding a backstory chapter, along with voice acting and cutscenes, for each new hero released. It doesn't have to be huge but enough to make players look forward to playing Arcade again and it would be a good way to introduce new heroes. If the devs need to charge for it, they can add an additional premium to the hero so players can either just pay for the hero or purchase both the hero and the backstory at an additional cost.
    • consider adding back the Responsive Dialogue System with a toggle option to make quests more immersive

    Permanent Content Vs. Temporary Content
Personally, I prefer the developers to channel their efforts on improving the permanent game modes but they can still add themes to them when a new event drops but even then, they should consider making permanent themes that can rotate with the existing ones. In a more general sense, I want the devs to focus more on improving permanent content rather than continuously creating temporary content; this applies to both game modes and cosmetics. That way, we would have more to look forward to each season. The backlog of temporary content is huge. Again, I wish that effort went towards permanent content as I believe For Honor would be in a better spot and have greater value for money.

As for temporary cosmetics/Limited-Time content and event content, they should return permantently in legacy bundles. Legacy bundles should be updated either after the event or the season so players who missed the event(s) don't miss out completely. We only have 4 legacy bundles that are available throughout the year. There should be more. Throwback events happen once in a blue moon so players who missed out have to wait a very long time for the content they want.

Past and future Battle Passes should also be available without time limits. They already have a progress track on them. The timer isn't necessary, especially when it's paid content. I feel players should able to complete multiple Battle Pass tracks simultaneously the same way we can complete the free pass, premium pass, and event pass at the same time. However, if that's not possible, then the players can be able to complete one Battle Pass track at a time with the option to switch between passes as they please to have more control over their progression.

With the above in mind, I believe Ubisoft would get more sales and give the game even more support.

Okay, I said a lot. So, what are your takes on the game modes in For Honor and the issue with permanent vs. temporary content?

Well I have definitely notice that the PC player community is maybe half the size of the console communities I did not expect that when I left console to come to PC. What is really said is that DOM is really only active playlist for PC version I prefer breach myself. However console version has a few playlist that are pretty active which actually kind of makes sense now.

I honestly do not see this game changing content or getting any better in those circumstances. I think a lot of PC players just decided to leave and play something else that would explain the low activity is other game modes.

I did not face any issue like this. 3 years ago I left the Console community and join the PC community just because I have to work on the Eden derma clinic project. For gaming console is best you will not face any issue in the console.

No event or even any game mode at all has ever been "dead" on Console, at least not on Xbox.

There is always activity and low activity game modes still only makes me wait 1 or 2 minutes for a match.

High activity game modes are usually 10 seconds, sometimes less.

PC on EU servers has had dead game modes like Death Match, Tribute, and the event modes at least since the beginning of Year 4. Again, the last event mode that held its own during the entirety of the event was 'Emperor's Escape.' Sometimes event orders for 2000 steel can improve activity for a little while but it still doesn't last the whole weekend. I think more appealing game modes with better incentives should be considered.

Perhaps if For Honor did its own version of The Siege of Paris as a crossover event mode(or even as a crossover expansion) when AC Vahalla drops the DLC then it might pique more interest.

Ahh. Yeah I'm Xbox NA. Servers are great with constant activity in every game mode, though DM and Tribute get left behind. If they made elimination better, I think it would be more populated.

Make Elim like duel/brawl (no feats/perks) and lock everyone in with their first opponent. Freedom to help your allies is only allowed after you kill the player you start against.

    Boom. Elimination fixed.

Deathmatch could have feats/perks removed and just made a team beat em up mode. Just run around hacking and slashing. That would make it more unique to dominion while barely changing it.

Separate DM from Elim after applying these changes.

Remove Tribute. It's a badly designed mode.

Upgrade Breach. Both sides should have a ticket limit. You don't get more or less tickets based on performance. Both sides get the same number of tickets. Give both sides unique tools to deplete enemy tickets with. Defender tools usually reside within the stronghold. Attacker tools reside within the ram.
