The only thing I have confirmed is that my connection is bad, really bad. Latency must be through the roof. Its a definite problem, I almost get motion sickness just watching & no way to even defend myself. My connection has always been rerouted through Google rather than directly from my ISP. They have no competition but its never been like this. I'm going to reboot my modem & see what tomorrow brings. Well make that today, it is now Monday.CategoryTheory
When I'm trying to confirm issues like this, I just switch my computer to another router that connects to a second ISP over the same local loop. If you can set up something like that, you can see if your problem is the ISP or something else. If you can't, you probably have the problem because you have no competition for ISP services. :-/
What does that even mean? Not asking to stir up trouble. Just never heard of something like that before.Originally Posted by Rodnaz Go to original post
"rerouted through Google" means that they are using the Google DNS servers/service. Helps, but won't make a crappy connection much better, just the DNS side if the ISP sucks.
Anyway... I had control issues only when the internet connection was unstable, the 1st sympthom seems to be that I my weapon refuses to shoot, then it's all downhill till I get the delta.
Other than that controls are fine on a wired kb.
This issue likely has more to do with your end than Massive's. For myself on a GB 110Mbit connection the controls are butter smooth 99% of the time. Most of the things that seem initially to me to be lag or unresponsiveness tend to be geometry issues on closer inspection. There are some skills that are very clunky to use but not so much that I would call them unuseable; like anything else that isn't performing well you can compensate for them too.Originally Posted by Duske- Go to original post
The DZs are the most laggy areas of the game but that has more to do with the game dumping you into populated servers as a priority rather than low ping servers and that's to foster the DZ aspects of this game.

As noted I am using Google's DNS Servers. 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 I did this on Steam to help with latency but with another Company. Hit regs were inconsistent. My connection typically is very good but last night was a nightmare. My ISP - Century Link, typically has been stable & I doubt last nights adventure was their problem. At midnight I have never ever experienced as poor as last night. I think this is all on UBI. A speed test showed my internet was good. I was going to log into Steam as a reference but my mobile verification was turned off.
Today I decided to run my 4th through NY. Waiting for UBI/Massive to straighten out their mess plus no DC caches sent me that direction. It will be interesting to see if there are credits.
Note that this makes no difference at all with latency once you're connected to a server. DNS is used only to turn a name (like example.com) into an IP address (like 93.184.216.34); once the IP address of the server is determined your computer sends packets directly to that address and no names or DNS servers are involved.Originally Posted by Rodnaz Go to original post
So using Google's DNS vs. any other DNS cannot be related in any way to any latency you experience in the game.
I use OpenDns i get much lower ping in games with it than google dns. it is especially noticeable in fast fps games. Therefore, it is popular among pro playersOriginally Posted by Rodnaz Go to original post
Per above, this is almost certain not to be th reason you're getting better FPS, if you even are.Originally Posted by Imagine_Brata Go to original post
My issue with the controls getting unresponsive is down to the games habit of server hopping. Usually near the tail end of a mission I'll notice that shots are taking longer to register or skills are sluggish. Then after a minute or so the game proudly announces there's a problem with MY connection but when I go to the menu's I find that for no good reason the game has punted me from europe off to somewhere like asia or the west coast of america as the usual suspects.
The only way to get back is to use the "find a better server" option but that drops the mission back to the start.
It's a long running problem with the game where it does this and for whatever reason the devs in charge of networking side didn't consider that moving someone to a higher ping would have a detrimental effect on their gameplay experience. That pointless server hopping shouldn't happen to a solo player within a mission or that if it does happen then the game should move them back to the one they should be in in the same automated way that caused the problems instead of accusing the player that the problem solely is on their end. Or having the only solution to be a rollback in progress.
