    Gear System Mods

I have google searched, YouTube searched and searched this forum, so please forgive me if this has been asked and answered elsewhere. For the life of me I can't figure out how to use the "Gear System Mods".

The weapon mods seem obvious and I have been adding them to weapons since I unlocked the ability and collected blue prints, things like grips, magazines, sights etc.

When I hit "F" (on PC) to mod armour pieces I get the option to apply appearance or dye only, on gear such as masks, gloves, holsters etc.

But when I go into my inventory and open "defensive System Mods" for example, I see a bunch stat buffs with square icons that look like DIMM chips or PC expansion cards, such as "449 Armor on Kill, +2.0% Protection from Elites" etc. However I have not found anywhere I can install them. Are they passively buffing my character just by owning them, or do I actively install them in some way I haven't discovered?

I didn't quite understand your question, but I'll try to help.

Your question is about those 3 gear flaps?

To activate any mod you have, just press F like you did on the vest, backpack or mask, choose the mod and press SPACE to equip.

Are you starting the game now? If so, mods have levels and if you are below the required level you won't be able to equip them.

Mods can be applied only on 3 armor pieces: mask, chest, and backpack.
There are crafted variants of gloves, holster, and kneepads with a mod slot but without any set bonus.

Also remember that gear can have a mod slot only if it's of high enough quality: purle or yellow IIRC, lower quality gear will not have a slot mod.

Actually, Specialized/purple gear has no mod slot (nor does anything lower than that). It's only the High-End/yellow gear that does.

It's a bit confusing for beginners because you usually start picking up gear mods before you ever come across any gear that can take one.

This right here is the correct answer.

I really wish the game had better tutorials. There's A LOT of game mechanics and systems that are never explained anywhere outside of players telling other players.
