Option to choose between first and third person perspective

"Far Cry 6 features a third-person perspective during certain scenes and will also let players choose which gender they want to play as, just like in Far Cry 5.

The addition of a third-person viewpoint is an interesting one, as the series is known for playing out entirely from a first-person perspective. In Far Cry 6, we’ll get to see the game’s protagonist, Dani Royas, in cutscenes, during certain parts of combat and when your character enters guerrilla camps. But why the change?

Well, in an emailed response to GameSpot, narrative director Navid Khavari said there are “a few reasons” why the game shifts perspective. The most fundamental reason behind the design decision is to create more of a connection between Dani and the player, and also to showcase the game’s various customization options."

    I HATE THIRD PERSON PERSPECTIVE!!!

If I'll be forced to play in TPS even for a second then bye bye Far Cry...

I think it's awesome to have Third person.

I've struggled with the lack of connection that First person offers in the past, which makes Far Cry a series I've enjoyed less than others, but it looks like FC6 will really address this.

It makes FC much more of an open-world RPG which is excellent.

I'm expecting 1st person for combat and 3rd person the rest of the time?

To the OP, I think your hope for First Person only, won't be happening because the cutscenes are there and there's footage of you walking and riding (3rd person).

    A useful clarification.

This brings Far Cry back to its roots as the original Far Cry had third person cutscenes.

I really don't understand this "connection" with the character.
A game perspective doesn't make it more or less of a RPG.

I was aware of this. I don't care about cutscenes. I care about the gameplay.
With FP perspective I take part in the action, with TP perspective it's like i'm spectating, it breaks the immersion.
I tried multiple times to play TPS games, every time hoping that i will like it but i ended up disliking it more.
I have nothing against the addition of TP perspective, i have against the removal of FP perspective in certain situations.
I just don't want to be forced to play how some developer thinks is better to play.
I'm curious who makes these kind of gameplay decisions.

    People with great common sense.

Third person perspective increases the engagement, otherwise it's just a gun on the screen (which of itself isn't very interesting).

I've just about tolerated playing FP games in the past, but these changes to Far Cry are a big step forward.

Well, while you're a hardcore first person only advocate, as a long time member of FC forums for many years now I can tell you that there has been a desire amongst a contingent of the fan base to add third person for a long while now. It started with some people saying that driving vehicles should switch to third, and progressively people started suggesting more and more that the whole game should be playable from both perspectives like an elder scrolls game or something.

I personally am not a member of that particular group, but I've seen it called for now for a few years, so this is obviously a reaction to that. I feel that being able to toggle between both perspectives diminishes gameplay in both compared to a game focused on making a single perspective as well executed as it can be. I've never played a game that has both options where they both feel great and on par with games that only offer a single perspective. Maybe RDR2, but Ubisoft ain't no Rockstar...

To be fair if there was a toggle option in the settings to disable third person during the backpack special attacks or while roaming the camp hub it would the best for all types of players and preferences. I don't personally care, according to footage seen so far I wont be using those backpacks very much since I am a stealth oriented player, and hub areas serve only as ammo depots for me.

Right. So microtransactions. Can't encourage players to buy cosmetics if they can't see them, amiright?
