What if we remove guardbreaking from the game?
Wait, before you grab your torches and pitchforks, hear me out, please.
When For Honor first came out, guardbreaking was a means to counter turtling. However as more and more character with bashes are added to the game, guardbreaks become less and less of a necessity.
Think about it, most of the time, a GB is used to either
a) grab someone before or after the I-frames of their attack
b) after a feint, or
c) as part of the notorious GB option select.
Now, in a For Honor where GBs didn't exists, we could instead
a) block or time a parry to create an opening instead
b)create or update movesets to allow soft feinting into certain bashes (much like conquerors) and
c)eliminate GB option selects
Now, does having GB break the game? No. They do, however, feel rather unnecessary given the current state of the game, and removing them might lead to a smoother flow of combat.
(Note: while I do suck at countering GBs, I don't think they're overpowered. I just think they're outdated.)
Not to be rude, but I feel like this is an incredibly stupid suggestion.Originally Posted by KoboldHonor Go to original post
Remove a core mechanic or the game? That would be like suggesting the removal of parrying or blocking or dodging.
The way to remove GB option select is a generic input cleanse to remove all option selects entirely.
Removing GBs would drastically alter the game, more so than the CCU did with all of its changes combined.
My conclusion is simple:
NO
No Bdur, you're not rude, you just suck at being nice. Most people trying not to be rude usually avoid calling thing they disagree with 'incredibly stupid'.Originally Posted by MrBdur Go to original post
Also, you say removing GBs would drastically alter the game, but in what way? I'm open to hearing examples.
What's your point?Originally Posted by PicoAncus Go to original post
Don't take it the wrong way, this is just my punch line for when we are considering the unthinkable as a result of existing failures.Originally Posted by KoboldHonor Go to original post
In other words, I understand well what you explained, and I agree with you in certain points of view. I do not agree is in the conclusion.
I don't think the problem is in the GB mechanism, but I do believe that to counter Turtling, Ubisoft started a much more accelerated fighting system based on the quick reaction of the players.
So far, everything would be fine. Were it not for the disadvantages of certain characters as you mentioned and well in the I-frames / frame disadvantage etc ... etc ...
I don't think the GB should be removed, I think that the balance between characters should be worked out.
This is just my punch line when I think there are problems with the balance between heroes.
I don't suck at being nice. Sometimes I just need to express my honest feelings and I personally think that it's just stupid.Originally Posted by KoboldHonor Go to original post
The better question is how would removing GBs NOT drastically affect the game?
It's a core component of combat. It's how you punish plenty of moves. It's another layer of defense to watch for. It means more mixup viability. It's how you catch dodge spammers. Etc.
To think it wouldn't change the game that much just makes you sound... well... I think you know...
