    How do you parry?

I realized today that I don't have a safe/sure way of parrying, and sometimes mistime some of the most obvious attacks, or try to parry faster than the actual attack. I have no problems with reading my enemies, but I probably have some flaws with my tech, because I am seemingly not cinsidtent.

I would really like some advice from people who don't suffer from the same problem.

    Y'all parry?

jokes aside, my only advice is to practice parrying in the practice mode against different bots until you're sick. Most of the time I parry by accident because I mistime an attack, but the practice mode did help with my more purposeful parry timing.

Just parry only when their attack indicator flashes white and never under any other circumstance. You'll never lose a game and be the best player in the world.

Most people who can parry consistently are using option selects.

Personally, I also miss plenty of parries but usually due to incorrect reads. When I read well, I can catch a stupid number of attacks including lights and I'm on console.

I just trained my reaction times and I play a large number of heroes so I'm at least partially familiar with every character's kit.

The easiest way for myself to counter a moveset is to play that hero enough to become familiar with all their kit's possibilities.

That being said, I haven't exactly played much for a month or two now. Lol

I rarely parry because I spend most of my time observing what my opponent does so I can properly bait them/respond to them.

There's general habits too that give away how people will behave in certain situations that make it an easy parry even if I didn't read that the person will specifically go for it.

Like if i'm in critical someone will usually respond with either a light or a zone as soon as possible. So at that point it's just remembering which side their zone comes from. Most of the time I see people go OOS with their zone because they buffered the input and assumed it would kill me. So free parry.

But I suppose besides just reading behavior my typical method of parrying really just comes down to if I want to parry. I will decide if I feel like parrying or not. And then if I decide I want to parry I focus up to see what the next attack is. If it comes from a hero i'm very familiar with I can tell based on animation and parry off of that.

Agreed. I'm in console too. In console the only possibility to parry lights is knowing the enemy kit and animation. Forget the reflex...

I option select parry with my zone almost exclusively. Rarely do I parry with heavy.

You have to depend on connection speed/pings & knowing the animation timings. I only have a hard time parrying charged heavies with variable timing.

Light parries on my side are 100% coincidental lol. 90% of the time i just tried to beat their attack with a zone from the same side as their attack. 10% i saw the red indicator & luckily timed it correct.

Most of the light parries i get are from external defense. In multi player fights, this is locking onto a different enemy than the one you are fighting to externally block & parry a person attacking you that you arent locked onto. It gives you auto guard if you guard towards the attack or in the direction of the player you are locked onto [if they throw an attack at you].

Externally parrying negates having to change HUD direction, you only have to worry about the timing.

I still miss a ton a parries. I cant parry Shugoki heavies for the LIFE of me fam lolololol.

Edit - BTW it is "consistent".
