Questions from someone late to the party.....

    Hi all,

I played TD1 way back when and thoroughly enjoyed it but have only recently started TD2 over the last few months. I have completed the main story line and currently doing the recurring missions at WT5. I have yet to start the Kenly College missions and have not even looked at raids yet.

I have had a look on the interweb and the pinned thread for newbies but can not find definitive answers. therefore, I wonder if some of you kind souls would answer the following questions I have on the game.

    1. Leveling up: Being at WT5 my gear score is 509 but technically (as I understand it) I am still at Level 30. To Increase this I need to complete the WONY dlc which, once complete, I will be at level 40. It is from this point on I get a little confused as the leveling then seems to refer to and SHD score....

    • Will I still be technically remain at Level 40 but the SHD score increases as XP progression?
    • Does Weapon Damage/Armour etc increase with SHD score?

    2. Gear Sets: I run the True Patriot gear Set (4 peices) and while the Fandom websites show the bonuses and attributes that match my load-out, I have seen videos and such that show different bonuses and values applied to this gear set and that you needed to have a full 6 piece to get the full benefit of the gear set. Now presumably this was changed at some point for True Patriot and other gear sets.

Is there any benefit to running a full 6 piece set?

Many thanks in advance and if these questions have already been answered elsewhere, please just point me in the right direction.

Yes, gear score goes away once you start the WoNY campaign.

Various attributes can be boosted by a small amount up to SHD 1000.

No, gear sets were revamped to only require four pieces a long time ago. In addition, all gear was completely revamped in March 2020, so you should ignore anything that was posted before then.

Being level 40 is just being level 40. The only difference is good or bad rolls, but at 40 your leveling process is done, and you start building up your watch with SHD points.

Your watch points give you some additional stats like HP, armor, skill DMG, but not by game changing much, and it ends at 1000. From there on you can trade SHD for money/materials.

As for gear sets, there is never a reason to need 6 pieces of the same brand. You could choose a 3/3 or 4/2 setup but they're generally not stronger than adding a few yellow brand items to your build.

Another tip if your going to use the green gear have it on the knee pads, gloves, holster and mask - find a backpack and Chest piece with a talent that suits your playing style. If you use green on the chest piece and backpack your missing out on the talents provided by these two pieces. You only need 4 greens to get all the attributes.

Welcome to TD2! I just started up a couple weeks ago myself and loving it....and yeah, there's lots to learn and figure out, lol. At Tier 5 where it seems you are it time for New York, and you'll get better gear than you have now pretty quickly once you get to NY. And when you get to level 40 the fun begins with recalibrating, optimization and such. I'm working on the replay of season 1 right now....but if you finish up Mew York you'll be set for the replay of season 2! Have fun and hope to see ya out there! :-)

Unless of course the talent from the gearset is the one you want. For example, the Negotiator's Dilemma backpack increases the damage transferred from your target to other marked enemies by two thirds (from 60% to 100%). That's a straight-up 36% increase in damage when you have two other enemies marked.
