I'm running out of storage space on my PS4 and since PS5's cost an arm and a leg $750 aud and are unobtainable here at the moment I'm considering getting an SSD with one of those USB to Sata adapters. According to what I have read and youtube videos the USB route has much faster load times than if it's installed internally and is much easier. You can easily transfer games from the internal drive to the external USB via the PS4 menu.
So my question is has anyone tried this with The Division 2 and will it greatly improve my loading times? I know it won't change graphics or game play but it takes over a minute now to "fast travel" from anywhere to the BoO, not to mention booting up the game and loading times during missions like when you get in an elevator or fast travel to a CP or mission.
I can always use the SSD later on in my PC if I buy a PS5.
It's a fraction of the cost of a PS5 and I can use the drive later on when I switch over, seems like a win win.Originally Posted by UbiFate Go to original post
Reading up more about it apparently if you put the SSD inside the PS4 the slow SATA interface causes a bottleneck and you don't get the full benefit from it, but with a proper SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface cable you do.
Just for info it was the: Samsung Portable SSD T5 that i bought.
When i used it i just stored the games i played most on it, but i tried not to use up all the storage.....saying that i think i just had TD2 on it
Only problem i found was if you group up with players you will be waiting for ages for them to get to you (if they have the old gen consoles without a SSD)....well it feels like ages.
I did it, got a 500gb Western Digital Blue SSD (thought about the 1tb but don't have many games that I play and it was 75% more) and the USB 3.1 to Sata III cable. It took a while to transfer the huge Division 2 file onto it, all 112gb's of it. Which would have been because of the slow internal drive.
I have tested it and it works fine, and speed wise for example it used to take me 65 seconds to "fast travel" back to the BoO, now around 15 seconds. And the same improvements when fast traveling anywhere. And no waiting for the graphics to play catch up. Now to transfer the rest of my games onto it.
Couldn't be happier, anyone who is thinking about doing this because of slow load times you won't be disappointed.
I have a PS5 and a couple guys I play with are still running Samsung SSD's in their PS4 pros. The PS5 is very slightly faster but they are so close in load speed that it's sometimes hard to tell. I'd say it cuts the load times on the PS4 pro by 4x's. 20 seconds now becomes 5.
Internal is neater for sure, but you get the same benefits externally, it makes such a difference I could never go back to the old drive, I tried Division One too and fast travel is around 10 seconds.Originally Posted by moesuvious Go to original post
