    Turret vs Drone

I’m curious how people use these... do you favour the drone or the turret? Is one always equipped or do you use both regularly? Does the situation or mission play a factor in which to equip?

I gather the turret is more robust than the drone, but the drone obviously has superior mobility and obstacles in the venue aren’t an issue for the drone. Do they both do similar DPS?

    How do you use these?

    Cheers,
    -Chris.

They most definitely do not do the same DPS
But it depends on your preference really. The pro for drone is that its mobile but the con is that it can be shot out of the air rather fast.
Placement for the turret is key to use its full potential.

I can only advice you if you use a full red build not to use them together as you are wasting a skill slot.
If you want to use them together you have to use a full skill build.

Now there are a lot of people that consider using a skill build is a 'throw your skills and sit back and relax' playstyle.
I can tell you they are very wrong.
I use them to deflect the focus of the npc's away from me so i can take more risks being exposed to shoot at them.

If you want i can give you the build i'm using for skills (it involves glass cannon) but from your other thread it might go against your playstyle regarding realism.

Also did you know you can pick up a turret before its duration expires?

I’ve found a setup that works well for me, but I’m curious what others do.

I started with the turret, but quickly discovered as you point out, that placement is key. And sometimes it’s difficult to predict the ideal placement... especially if you haven’t played missions multiple times (or once even). I now use the drone (as of about level 30). But I only used it when I was feeling I’m about to get overwhelmed or there’s some elites or a boss I need it to distract. I’m now using it more often on High difficulty when taking control points especially... just to give everyone something else to shoot at. It is a very effective distraction (more than it is a weapon). It only comes out when the situation calls for it, but that is happening more often now.

But I’m curious how others use these skills.

For non skill builds I regularly use the assault drone as a distraction device, it doesn't do much damage but if they can make the NPC break their focus on me then it's done a great job, I'll do the rest.

As for the turret, I'm a big fan of the artillery turret, it takes some time to get used to with placing, aiming and keeping in-sync up, but it's one of my strongest builds. I love to use it for SHD farming resource convoys.

I feel that the turret (when reasonably welll placed) does more damage than the drone, overall, but I could be wrong about that. The turret definitely surives a lot longer, at least at lower skill tiers where survival is an issue.

The drone is nice in that it can distract an enemy and bring him out of cover, but I don't find it reliably distracts elites (especially chungas) the way a turret at floor level or on the edge of low cover does. That, again, may be related to my use of it.

I use turret and drone together only on a high-skill-tier build (at least 3, preferably 4); neither do particularly much damage in an all-red build (skill tier 0 or 1) at higher difficulty levels. If you use both Technician specialization and the Memento backpack that would bring you up to skill tier 2, which might start to be more effective, but I've not tried that yet.

On my all-red builds I generally go for Demolisher Firefly and Assault Turret. I feel that the Demolisher Firefly is underated; I've found it really helps a lot with the most annoying enemies, who almost invariably have a weak point. Even a skill tier 1 Firefly seems to be able to destroy most weak points, usually killing or nearly killing Veterans and reducing the capacity of an Elite to do damage.

I use both of them with Technician.
    6 skill tiers, 2x 15% weapon damage, 1x 170k armor.
    Guns:
    Capacitor
    Classic M1A (future perfect)
    Back up Boomstick (future perfect)

    Gear:
-Empress Mask (12% crit damage mod)
-Empress Chest (Obliterate, 12% crit damage mod)
    -Empress Holster
-Momento Bag (12% crit damage mod)
    -Fenris Gloves
    -Wyvern Kneepads

    All stats normal gear:
10% skill damage and 6% crit chance.

    -Drone: on an Elite enemy.
Because it just follows you after a kill.
    -Turret: starts at a Bombardier.
-Both: on a Heavy, when there is one.

In Legendary missions, depends what's there.
My Who has to go first list:
    -Heavies
    -Support station healers
    -Drone controllers
    -Defibrillator healers
And if my team hasn't killed them yet.
    -Bombardiers
    -Warhounds
    -Everything else

    116,4k damage on the Capacitor.
    50% crit chance
    111% crit damage

    Annihilation in its best form.

The Turret is more powerful and you can move it - the drone is less powerful but will dig the NPCs out and sidetracks the enemy as they will all try to shoot it. When used in combination its like having 3 guns at once I can get 78000 out of the drone and 126000 out of the turret both with less then 11 sec cool down. Why have one when you can use both. Seeker was nerf out of the game so I don't use that anymore.

    Totally dependant on your build

On my skill build I use both.

On other builds, I tend to use the drone more, as a distraction more than anything else as it always takes the focus of non elite enemies away from you (even those cleaner shield idiots....). That being said, on some builds, you're much better using a different skill altogether.

    Very vague answer I know...

It seems everyone agrees the drone is a great distraction device. In many situations, it’s proven invaluable in getting elite enemy attention allowing me to hit their weak points or continuously nail them with my rifle without fear of getting cut down. Maybe it’s the difficulty I’m playing at (Hard) but it seems rare that it gets shot down. It seems remarkably resilient.

I regularly use both when trying to run through a mission, the Turret does more damage will keep firing all the time and you can move it now, but like others have said it requires correct placement, which is no biggie IMO. The drone does less damage but will chase enemies down, sometimes though it will not and just hover above me making me target an enemy to get it started again.

The incinerator Turret can be bothersome, sometimes it just doesn't want to start flaming, even though enemies are within range.
