All it takes is one question.
Does what I'm doing make me happy?
Easiest way to tell if a game is good.
Does it make you happy?
For Honor used to make me happy. Even on bad days when I got my butt kicked all day long it was better than it is now.
The mind games are what made For Honor so unique and the CCU removed a lot of that.
Light spam was an issue prior to the CCU, but the blanketed approach to fixing it clearly did not solve that problem.
Remove hidden indicators, slow down lights, speed up heavies, and make light parries the same as heavy parries.
I dunno, I'm ranting now.
The point is, For Honor does not make me happy anymore.
It has lost the unique feeling it once had in its gameplay.
I no longer feel like I'm conditioning or tricking opponents so much as mashing and desperately attempting to parry light attacks whilst usually missing by less than 100ms.
I keep coming back telling myself it's me, it's my problem, I'm just not adapting, I'm just not good enough, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, etc.
I enjoyed the game far more when I was far worse at it, before I could even HOPE to consistently parry light attacks, now I do it on good days with the hidden indicators as opposed to before they were a thing.
I have gotten much better, but since the CCU, my experience has just gotten worse and worse. I find myself far more frustrated with the game as a whole now with how reliable spamming can be.
The idea behind the CCU was to stop light spam from being such a problem, and they introduced many ways to counter light spam, and then blanketed the game with hidden indicators that actually just made spamming so much worse.
For Honor was like no fighting game on the market.
Now, it falls much closer to those games.
I have never liked traditional fighters.
Who can learn the longest combo string and keep the opponent from being able to play the longest? Yeah, sounds fun.
For Honor was more in line with a UFC fighting game where moves were technical and mind games were very real.
Oh look, I'm ranting again.
Conclusion:
For Honor does not bring me joy.
Goodbye for good.
My suggestion to all my friends who get frustrated:
Use meta characters. Out of 28 chars currently, theres about 10 that are actually good. Any char with hyper armor or frame advantage [i haaaaate this mechanic ugh] is meta. Forget all assassins except Zerk. Dont use any char with reflex guard [except Zerk].
This will help alleviate frustration cuz u will do better.
If its really bad then dont drive yourself nuts; just find another game to play. Money isnt important in life cuz you can always hustle up more of it.... you can NEVER get time back. So dont waste time being unhappy.
I still play cuz i can always try new chars as i dont play with all the chars.. and mainly my clan / friends are my main reason to keep playing.
The fact that "just use meta heroes" is the advice I'm getting is exactly why I no longer enjoy this game.Originally Posted by MrGrippz Go to original post
theres something weird about network and attack animations, i know it because against some player i can see their light spam, and im amazed by how slow they are, letting me parry everything, but then comes the next player and i cant even block their attacks, at that issue im sure the delay handling is messing too much with the animations, at some spot, games need to sacrifice technical quality in order to improve consistency, this is a thing that warcraft 3 built in their gameplay design, shoving a general 250 delay to every action and in that way, they where able to let people all around the world play against each other without this kind of results, as years passed, blizzard reduced that general delay accordingly with improved networks all around the world, last time i played the standard was forced 80 miliseconds
I mean I still enjoy the game very much but there some things that really sour my taste and makes me play it with day long time gaps.
There are still so many bad design choices that I pretty much criticise since season 1.
Dmg feat Balance, Cap points with ledges and some other stuff like that pretty every thing in the game cancels your I frames.
I can’t really bring myself to ignore this kind of stuff because it should have been fixed years ago.
And then there is this community sometimes that don’t really seem to use there brain and instead act more like a additional enemy you have to fight.
But hey calling them out hurts there ego and they feel insulted like some kinda of primitive sub human. (because criticism for mistakes are bad apparently.)
I don’t think highly of the majority of the community, that was different once but these kinda people have pretty much brought this on themselves.
Probably for the best. You seem to flip flop around between loving and hating things and these feelings drastically swing your view of the game around.
That's why I swapped from writing suggestion threads and (mostly) stopped writing helpful posts. It got to be too stressful for me. I turned something that's meant to be enjoyed into something that was a chore.
However i've had nothing but fun since I returned. And it's specifically because I don't play the game daily anymore for hours on end. Some people are capable of doing that without becoming so jaded with the game but not me. I enjoy the game for what it is. Which has really only been possible because the CCU exists. Without it i'm confident the game would be stagnating and seeing far less support from the community. People get to push buttons now and that's great.
If you choose to play the game in the future my advise to you would be to stop focusing on how people choose to play as a way to give feedback to the devs. Being blendered isn't fun. Having someone constantly opt to do a dodge attack isn't fun. People who "spam" certain things isn't fun. But ya know what? That's just how pvp games are. You have to be able to seperate your experiences and your feelings from giving feedback. Balance does not and should not be shaped based on one's level of play. It should be purely based on factual information based on what is and isn't possible. It has to be a constant.
Man you just need a break, or to not play daily.
Perhaps you reached your skill plateau or after work you are tired. Playing tired this game is not much fun.
I recomend you to improve your skill (in the case you think you hit the plateau) to follow some sugestions:
1.Get yourself a break, a week maybe.
2.start to train without indicators. Try to identify animations and the little details.
3.only play when you are fresh or in off days.Never for more than 2 hours.
Since I started to train without red indicators my light parries are at the order of the day, is imposible to lightspamming me, and also I can identify very well baits and feints, also hatemail is higher than ever and racist slurs too, so the fourth recomendation is to turn off the chat.
For Honor is garbage, I've just denied it until now.
I flip flop because I WANT to love the game like I used to but the reality keeps coming back to bite me.
It's a garbage game filled with imbalances and metas and broken *** heroes.
I'm done waiting for them to make it good.
There's a reason why For Honor hasn't made any real esport news in 4 years. It isn't good enough.
It's not fair enough to warrant real tournaments and we know this because they only just started this dominion series thing and even that is quite lackluster because everybody just picks the same "almost required to compete" heroes.
All PvP games are absolutely NOT like this. Plenty of PvP games are fair on both sides and you see this when one player is obviously better than the other. The better player wins. All there is to it.
Those games all have the opportunity to consistently beat people that you are better than. Makes sense. If you're better at the game, you will perform better. Logic.
For Honor no longer follows this sense of logic since you can just mash sh*t and beat players better than you outta sheer luck.
People used to beat me by genuinely out-manuevering me. Light spam was an issue, yes, but they fixed the previous light spam issues with many logical decisions. Then, they blanketed the game in hidden indicators and erased the effects of their light spam fixes. They actually made it worse, believe it or not.
Before the CCU, my main Kensei was considered the most balanced hero on the roster. It was my favourite thing about him. I consistently made diamond with him and was only getting better. I expected to become a GM with the light spam "fixes".
Nope.
Now Kensei is considered incredibly cheap and you know what? I'm sad to say that I agree.
Fighting Kenseis now just feels... bad.
Fighting most heroes now feels bad.
The game just FEELS bad now most days.
If you can only handle an hour of the game a day and any more ruins your enjoyment, you're sort of agreeing it's garbage without actually agreeing it's garbage, you know?
If you thoroughly enjoy something, it's easy to lose track of time while doing it.
MayanKing, I have no chat option. I am not on PC. Parrying lights consistently makes sense. You're on PC. I can do that too. The reason I refuse to play PC is 20 minute matchmaking times. No thanks.
This game is either
1) play the good version and wait 20 minutes per match
2) play console, enjoy 1 minute mm times, but then question how the actual f*ck anyone enjoys themselves when light spam is so bloody easy to get away with.
Knight Raime, I proved this when I beat you silly during our duel sesh.
I used plenty of stupid things that you yourself have said is easy to counter yet you fell for my maneuvers over and over and over again.
Prime example is when I played Zerk after I said zerk needs nerfs. You disagreed and said zerk isn't hard to counter. I then proceeded to crush you with zerks "needs a nerf" moves.
Yeah. You certainly showed me how easy zerk is to counter, bro.
I can "perform" just fine if I pick the right hero, but I shouldn't be required to play a certain hero just to enjoy myself. THAT is where I am lost here.
Anyways, agree or disagree, if you genuinely still enjoy the game, I'm happy for you. I am going to be finally moving on, however.
I guess the biggest reason for my disappointment is that I wanted to be a For Honor content creator but 90% of console for honor is just spamming lights and bashes at each other. It is incredibly boring to watch. No content to be had there.
Have a good one guys.
Was. It's still got it's issues but it's practically standing on it's own two legs now. This statement is coming from a place of emotion. Not logic. For Honor is garbage, I've just denied it until now.
We didn't have spectator mode which made doing tournaments outside of Lan situations basically impossible to do properly. Even if FH was balanced to a level of satisfaction for you it still wouldn't be able to be a tournament capable game without that feature. The fact that the devs are finally in a spot to be able to make the game actually work in a competitive setting at all these days is a thing that should be praised. Not bad mouthed. It's not fair enough to warrant real tournaments and we know this because they only just started this dominion series thing and even that is quite lackluster because everybody just picks the same "almost required to compete" heroes.
You've misunderstood my message. I was attempting to mention that all pvp games regardless of balance or design house aspects that are frustrating to deal with. Apex legends is probably the easiest example I can give of a game that's highly competitive in nature that has plenty of support for it both from the devs and the community in that aspect. It's balance continues to improve and there are still genuinely tilting aspects about it. If your statement about mashing was true then it would be reflected in high level play. Which it isn't.All PvP games are absolutely NOT like this. Plenty of PvP games are fair on both sides and you see this when one player is obviously better than the other. The better player wins. All there is to it.

No, Kensei was called "balanced" by the casual community because he lacked any sort of tools that could be "oppressive/strong." Competitively he was considered underpowered even after his rework because of fundamental problems in his kit. Yet even then Kensei still received flak because of his dodge attack by the average player. Before the CCU, my main Kensei was considered the most balanced hero on the roster. It was my favourite thing about him. I consistently made diamond with him and was only getting better. I expected to become a GM with the light spam "fixes".
I'm sure glad you're here to tell me what I find and what I don't find enjoyable. I specifically explained why I don't play as much as I used to and why it's fun for me now. I don't play any pvp game for more than a few hours at a time because I can tilt pretty easily. But I guess if you want to just ignore parts of my statements to make your argument sound better than i'm not even sure why I bothered to respond to the thread in the first place. If you can only handle an hour of the game a day and any more ruins your enjoyment, you're sort of agreeing it's garbage without actually agreeing it's garbage, you know?
If you thoroughly enjoy something, it's easy to lose track of time while doing it.
You and me had a lovely back and forth experience. I really dislike that you're tarnishing what I considered an enjoyable experience for the sake of your ****ty take. It really makes me regret setting aside our differences from the spat we had to try and have a good time together.Knight Raime, I proved this when I beat you silly during our duel sesh.
Ah yes, because triumphing over me in a few duels when I barely play is such an accomplishment. It's totally a good measurement when debating balance. /sI used plenty of stupid things that you yourself have said is easy to counter yet you fell for my maneuvers over and over and over again.
Prime example is when I played Zerk after I said zerk needs nerfs. You disagreed and said zerk isn't hard to counter. I then proceeded to crush you with zerks "needs a nerf" moves.

Totally loving how you called me a solid player and defended my opinions in another thread but now my opinions are bad because the argument is against you.
You could've literally only said this as a response to me and things could've ended amicably. Instead you had to behave like a jerk. Which is a bit sad coming from someone who's supposedly laid back and mature. I thought my response to your thread was fairly neutral. But I guess I was in the wrong for trying to offer some advice if you were to play it again. Next time you complain i'll be sure to ignore it if i'm not hopping right into the circle jerk with you.Anyways, agree or disagree, if you genuinely still enjoy the game, I'm happy for you. I am going to be finally moving on, however.
You still can. Kenzo is a very laid back individual who still regularly puts out console duel videos and I find his content to be enjoyable. You can also go the way of daddy law and let small things tilt you for the sake of generating views on streams. Really the only thing preventing you from making content is yourself.I guess the biggest reason for my disappointment is that I wanted to be a For Honor content creator but 90% of console for honor is just spamming lights and bashes at each other. It is incredibly boring to watch. No content to be had there.
You too I guess.Have a good one guys.
