If you don't do PvPvE, then skip this thread

Sounds familiar right? Fortresses = landmarks, and there are supply drop events too.In a 60-player server on a massive map, you've got towering cyclonic winter storms, enemy NPCs and Far Cry style fortresses with minibosses and gear to loot—there's even a roaming megaboss somewhere in that wintry hellscape.
Most importantly - it's class-based, so much easier to balance.
One thing I like is there seems as much emphasis on PvE as there is on PvP. Your squad wins a round by extracting or uploading the highest number of data points, not by killing the most players.
Uploading requires that you stand by a terminal during the upload process, but you can break off and upload the remaining data points at another terminal. That would allow you to avoid engaging with hostile players if you wanted. It would be interesting if this mechanic could be worked into a Div3 Dark Zone.
Reminder - this is for people who liked Div 1's Survival. The first post even starts off with this:
Anyhow, I forgot to mention the game is in Early Access on PC for now. And to be clear, it's NOT a looter shooter. Player progression is XP based, and unlocks additional classes, talents and cosmetics. Not better gear or higher stats.Originally Posted by dagrommit Go to original post
The parallels with Div 1 survival are uncanny though - snowy environment, a freezing mechanic (you need to light fires periodically to stay warm), landmarks to clear, extraction and all players start a match with nothing. It'll be interesting to see if it takes off, and if so, whether a future Div 3 adopts the uploading mechanic.

Also for full clarification, we actually don’t “scale” levels in the traditional sense because, as Wix discussed in the Gameplay Balance blog, we want to create a balance where high-level players don’t automatically win every engagement. We can do this because Explorer levels aren’t attached to power, and research levels just grant more flexibility in the loadout you bring to each match. By not attaching stats to any of these, we don’t have to ‘scale’ power (ie. A level 100 player doesn’t do 10% more damage than a level 1 player).
eh... they can work, titanfall 2 is dope and is mostly PVP but has aspects of PVE sprinkled on it, depends how well they balance it. Doesn't seem much like my cup of tea but won't fully shut down so hard without any hands on or more informationOriginally Posted by Sircowdog1 Go to original post
Titanfall 2 has a single-player PVE story.Originally Posted by xcel30 Go to original post
Titanfall 2 has PVP with some NPCs in it. Nothing about it is "PVE"
Any time a game has a label of "PVPVE" it's a trap.
Sounds like it could be a nice game but I think the statement above is only true when players play it first few times. After that it's just go in and kill others, I might be wrong but compared to DZ that is exactly what happens. Even when there are so many other things to do besides going after others for no reason.Originally Posted by dagrommit Go to original post
ADDED: I think games like this can be much better when it's PwP, as in go in as squad and come out as full squad, no one left behind. During the match you face NPCs or whatever and you have to rely on the other players in the team. Not sure why most games need to have PvP, and this mode usually also attracts cheaters.
It's PvPvE, so there will always be someone more interested in the PvP aspect than the PvE aspect. The point is that this game doesn't only rely on PvP for the victory condition or character progression. It's also squad (of three) based, so you don't have to deal with groups ganging up on solo players.Originally Posted by echolecter Go to original post
I don't generally play PvP, but it does provide replayability and including it will often attract a larger crowd. Not sure why most games need to have PvP, and this mode usually also attracts cheaters.
How do you fulfill the winning conditions once you've been killed by someone camping an upload post?Originally Posted by dagrommit Go to original post
PvP and PvE must always be separate. Trying to mix them is always a recipe for disaster.
There are multiple upload points, and they spawn NPC's when players are nearby - i.e. someone camping is going to be occupied. You also don't need to upload everything at once. My squad placed sixth on one match despite dying at extraction because we'd uploaded the bulk of our datapoints.Originally Posted by desrocchi Go to original post
