Players caught out smurfing in lower elo, will Ubi respond?

So this is an interesting thread in which a sponsored player was caught smurfing at a lower elo.

    https://twitter.com/R6Shame/status/1386788300606906370

Will Ubi actually do something and uphold their terms of use or just pretend it doesn't exist?

We all know it's going to be the latter.

Hopefully Ubi will go down the Valve approach for DOTA 2

    DOTA 2's handling of smurfs.

    BANNING SMURFS

Even the most fairly-matched games of Dota can spiral out of control. And no one wants the extra burden of playing against smurfs. In the past, we leaned heavily on attempting to detect smurf accounts and move them to their correct MMR more quickly, which has helped somewhat but still causes damage along the way in cases of extreme smurfing.

Starting today, smurfing will be a bannable offense. We will primarily focus on new accounts created after today for which we have high confidence in their smurfing and game-ruining behavior. Moreover, we will also occasionally manually ban old pre-existing accounts that are clearly game-ruining. Furthermore, if you are found to be selling accounts, boosting or engaged in similar game ruining behaviors, your primary account may also be subject to a ban. To go along with this, we've recently increased our ban rate for boosters and purchased accounts.

For cases where we don’t have extremely high confidence, but do have cause for smurf suspicion, those accounts are more likely to play with other suspected smurfs until we gain confidence to judge one way or the other.

If you do suspect someone of smurfing in your game, use the new post-game report option included in this update to flag them. This will help us track legit offenders and gather data used to inform our anti-smurf efforts moving forward.

UBI hasn't done anything to stop smurfs and cheaters for over 4 years - why should they start now? They farmed out all their 'cheat control' efforts to 3rd party companies like BattlEye, then the Siege development team walked away from cheating completely and said 'there, all fixed'. (P.S.: it's NOT). Their current blog posts are nothing but vague hints, meaningless waffle, and empty promises which remain perpetually unfulfilled.

The 'pro' matches are still heavily monitored and they catch cheaters in their broadcast events (mostly). That's all they care about. They police THOSE matches well enough. But the tens of thousands of paying customers on the public servers? They all get thrown to the wolves.

They arent actually smurfing in low elo tho? There is nothing wrong with creating a second account if you play to the max of your abilities and dont intentionally downrank it.

Actually, there is. Sure, playing to the fullest of your capabilities with a smurf is definitely better than those who just play with smurfs to stay into low ranks. Still, even like this, you are still going to be matched, supposedly, against people with lower skills, who will have a hard time stepping up. It's pretty much like having a newcomer face an Ash main.

Smurf accounts are bad enough. Playing against plats I held my own and was doing well. It is the cheats that really blow a hole in the game. You combine that with the terrible problems many hit and the game is just not good. Because you can literally be "smacking those kids" as a random plat that joined our party said. And 100% the other team was getting issues. Shots not killing. Happens way too much.

The one big issue I have seen with smurf accounts, a few that joined us, is they are cheating in some way. Thing called a chronos or whatever were being used by some. Wall hack for at least 2. They admitted as much. And we see them on the other team enough. It is bad enough that I was close to platinum when the problems started hard core. And hitting people in the head does nothing and a lot of other stuff. So we can be up 3-0 and lose because we can not longer kill people and they just sprint right in and eat. Had one, 4-4, where we were down 5-2 almost immediately. 2 ran outside and I killed them and revived the downed teammate. Killed another and then had a player shotgun both of us through a well that you cannot shoot through. Kill feed shows the player just pop the shot through that concrete wall and we both die. Losing so many in a row. Some legit. Most ******** like this.

The one thing I can say about smurf accounts is that they can mess up other people because the legit ones are able to carry some lower tier lobbies.

What's additionally horrific about smurfing on console...is that there isn't a limit...and every account is free. Quite frankly, EVERY account that wants to play online should be the full fee for PS Plus or Xbox Live. Of course, that's on console...and of course nobody cares about console.

erm creating multiple accounts is now breaching ToS, I believe Get_Flanked and a few other siegetubers covered this around 12 months ago. they specifically made changes to ToS stating "multiple" accounts can result in all accounts being terminated. so yes it is wrong and has been for some time now
